Top 10 Fighters for Footwork?

Are you talking about footwork for show? or truly effective footwork? or both?

 

Wow man, it's real hard trying figure out a guy who's foot-work is the best ever. My immediate responses were Pep, Canto and Duran. Making a top 10 is gonna be hard.

I'll give it a go later on.

Lots of guys have great footwork, way to many to do a list even more so if you want any real degree of accuracy. But as soon as I saw the thread I thought of 2 guys, may or may not qualify as great in this department but I find them both top notch.

Yoko Gushiken I love his footwork. So smooth the way he moves in and out always in range to strike and out of range to get caught. Moving forward, backwards or circling and holding the center ring. I could pop in a Yoko fight every week and never get bored of his movement.

JCC- Not so much for his footwork or movement, but rather his foot placement and balance. To me he was a master at always having proper foot placement/balance to absorb, block roll with punches and attack without being off balance or out of position.

 

#1 for me is Pep. I watched Fights with Savoije and Famechon with my mouth open...

 

I also think Joe Louis has very underrated under appreciated footwork. Very systemic and very little wasted movement.

I think of Trinidad at his offensive best stalking guys, sure he had good power but his footwork is top notch when he is firing on all cylinders

Louis wrote the book on footwork as far as Heavyweights are concerned. I love Ali but always thought his gift was so natural it couldn't be compared to conventional footwork.

 

5 moderns who impress me Golovkin,Usyk,Lomachenko,Inoue.M Garcia.

Others Conn, Pep,Robinson,Canto,Locche.

 

Benny Leonard and Tommy Loughran should be mentioned here.

Just without overthinking everything. Although I should probably note quickly that I definitely find offensive footwork more impressive. It literally took all of my will-power to not put Charles as #1.

You could definitely have other guys here. Ali and Leonard just ever so slightly didn't make the cut off. And to be honest, I think they belong above Shibata, I just really wanted to include him.
