    Appreciate the feedback.

Willard aimed from the get-go to outlast the older, smaller man, who was likely forced into accepting a 45 round defense which virtually guaranteed the outcome, if Jack couldn't produce a knockout. Jess prepared carefully, planned appropriately, and did what he should have done. Johnson has been credited with his performance in defeat, particularly in rounds 13, 14 and 15 [According to the best of my recollection, anyway.] Willard could be dismissed as a one time performance, like Douglas against Tyson [and his defenses against Moran and Dempsey were only scheduled for ten and 12 rounds respectively]. However, Johnson made him earn it, and it may have been more difficult, and taken longer than Willard and his handlers expected. [At age 37, Johnson was the oldest reigning heavyweight champion to that time.]

I did not mean to credit Maxim for his performance against Robinson [which was an all or nothing gamble by Joey that Robby would run out of energy before Maxim ran out of time]. My intention was to suggest that Johnson surpassed in Havana what SRR did through 13 rounds against Maxim, in far more impossible circumstances.

Personally, I don't think Maxim or Robinson were particularly smart in their title fight. Robby overexerted much, much more than necessary, while Joey over paced to an extent that he was hopelessly behind on the cards when it ended. Maxim-Robinson wasn't a matter of who was going to win, but who was going to lose, and it "easily" could have gone either way. Whether or not to postpone it for cooler weather was discussed, and I absolutely believe the wrong decision was made to proceed as scheduled. It was a stupidly dangerous error in judgment which needlessly endangered the lives of all participants. [That includes referee Goldstein. None of them were prepared to perform in those torrid conditions, an integral expectation for tropical or desert heat under the midday sun, like Havana and Goldfield.] Maxim made an extreme improvisational gamble by playing it safe, while Robby did much more than necessary to win the decision, his only avenue to victory regardless of climate. [Joey only won three of the completed 13 rounds.]

Willard-Johnson in its entirety came to light from under somebody's bed in 1958, a dozen years after Johnson killed himself racing to the Louis-Conn rematch. But if that film had been immediately released in 1915, I wonder if Johnson would have claimed a dive to save face. While coming in "hog fat" did himself a disservice, his performance in defeat did not.

I always thought Salvador Sanchez had great stamina... He always seemed to really pull ahead from rds 11-15. I remember reading that he had a way of regualting his breathing between rounds so that he was totally refreshed by the start of the next round. His fights with Pat Ford, Laporte and of course Lopez, he just came on like a beats in the `championship` rounds...

Darn close! He has 24, which is more than Greb (22) and Johnny Dundee (22), but less than Sam Langford (41 or more)

Put Frazier up there with them.....he deserves it.

Harada also would be part of my top 10.

I recently added a bunch of fights I found for Siddons on Boxrec. Do you happen to have a record for him? His early bouts are difficult to track down.

Also added a bunch for Chuck Wiggins.

:rofl where hell is jack johnson? he had more stamina than marciano for sure(i am waiting for the typical rocky fans debating it), johnson fought more rounds than rocky fought ever and he was 37 when he faced willard and he lasted tons of rounds.. uh? the old fighters of the 1800s had more stamina than frazier and marciano, these old guys fought tons of rounds. john l. sullivan did eat like a pork and he did drink like a bar drunk and still he had stamina to fight , these old guys were made of iron, HARD TIMES, HARD GUYS

The Klitschko brothers have great stamina now? If Wlad has great stamina then everybody has great stamina.

Paul Williams threw alot of punches, was it because he had great stamina or because of how bad the opponents were? Either way he threw alot of punches.

With benefit of hindsight, the final result is the final result. To the audience watching it as it unfolded live though, it must have seemed as though Ray was well on his way after ten to 12 rounds. Maxim gambled and won, but he'd be slammed today for non-effort if Ray had managed to reach the final bell.

Sometimes, I try to reflect from a perspective of foresight, "as if" not knowing the result beforehand, and that helps continue a fun sense of amazement for me at certain historical outcomes.
