I consider Oscar to have maybe one premium victory, and that was over Quartey. I give the man credit for fighting everyone, but he came out second best against the better fighters he fought.
mine would be 10. Wladimir Klitschko 9. Erik Morales 8. Marco Antonio Barrera 7. Felix Trinidad 6. Shane Mosley 5. Roy Jones Jr. 4. Manny Pacquiao 3. Bernard Hopkins 2. Joe Calzaghe 1. Floyd Mayweather Jr.
I got news for you if using just the last 15 years Jones has been passed by BOTH Pac and Hopkins. You are living in the past.
:good Thank God there are still some rational and mature posters on the General. How is saying that Calzaghe is closer to Tszyu and Winky than he is to Jones and Pacquiao a form of "hate"? That is 100% correct IMO. Tszyu and Winky were, like Joe, very good fighters and some of the best of the era, but their resumes, achievements and abilites fall some way short of the Jones's and the Pacquiao's. Hate?? Grow the **** up FrochPascal you worm!
sorry to cut you.... but somehow i need to expose your stupidity again.. you said before the pac-hoya fight in a thread... http://www.eastsideboxing.com/forum/showthread.php?t=76207&page=2 Pac vs DLH!!! Boxing needs it!!! I hope the fight happens, and after it does I hope the police troll this site for all the people that wanted Pac to take the fight so they can charge them with accessories to murder cuz Oscar would kill pac and now you are making your excuses??? dont worry. I'll PM your certificate of hatred and stupidity. :good This content is protected rofl:rofl
1. Roy Jones Junior 2. Floyd Mayweather Junior 3. Hernard Hopkins 4. Felix Trinidad 5. Lennox Lewis 6. Manny Pacquiao 7. Oscar de la Hoya 8. Shane Mosley 9. James Toney 10. Marco Antonio Barrera
So are you saying that Oscar was robbed against Mosley and Trinidad ? I think those fights were too close to call it robbery. BTW the Whitaker fight could´ve eaysily gone the other way too.
We've had this discussion before. I don't credit Oscar with the win over Mosley or Trinidad, much like I don't credit Marco with a victory over Morales in 2000. Just the way I do it. Whitaker was way past his prime, still a good fighter, but I don't think it's a premium victory. In any event, I think wins over prime Pacquiao and prime Morales beat it. Only reference those two because I believe they should be above him in this list (Barrera and Morales). Vargas was a better fighter before he took that beating at the hands of Trinidad, but I still credit Oscar for a good victory. If I'm honest, I don't rate Vargas that highly and I'm not sure I ever did. Oscar best official wins - Quartey, Vargas, Whitaker (past prime) Barrera's best official wins - Morales x2, Hamed (Both undefeated) Morales best official wins - Pacquiao, Barrera (I could have listed some other names but prime versions of those two says it all) Just looking at their best win. Quartey never really amounted to much in the end. He lost to Vargas, and kind of fell off the radar. Morales, established himself as an all-time great by winning titles at three weights and toppling Manny Pacquiao, who has of course gone on to establish himself as probably a top 50 ATG. There isn't much value in this, I just thought it was worth a mention.
I love how this has turned into another Calzaghe debate. For me the top 12 is as follows. Also I am basing my list on skills as well as resume. 1 - Mayweather 2 - Pac-Man (He will over take PBF at some point) 3 - Jones (He was great, but I do feel as if he did use smoke and mirrors) 4 - B-Hop 6 - Calzaghe 7 - Lopez 8 - MAB 9 - Erik 10 - Tito 11 - Shane 12 - Lewis
I don't see how Mayweather can be listed above Hopkins. People criticize the man for fighting smaller guys, but historically Middleweights have always took on the best Welterweights moving up. Nobody criticizes Hagler for taking the Leonard fight. Worth noting, Hopkins was an underdog against Pavlik, Tarver, and Trinidad. He dominated all three of them. Pavlik and Trinidad being undefeated at the time. He brutalised Glen Johnson, first and only man to ever stop him. Wright just tops off a stellar resume. Likewise, Ricardo Lopez was a fantastic fighter and nobody can really deny the man's skill sets. Great boxer, with devastating power in either hand. That said, I think he chose to stay down at Minimumweight when he should have really moved up to Light Flyweight where there was some great names for him to fight. Carbajal, Gonzalez. His frame was big enough that he could have moved up a few divisions actually, and only then would he have had a legitimate claim to be higher than the likes of Marco and Erik, in my opinion, who did move up when the talent pool at 122lb was dying. Trinidad above Mosley? Shane wins on longevity and has been more successful whilst moving up in weight than Tito ever was. If you're basing your list on skills and resume, why the hell is Joe Calzaghe up at 6 or even on the list? I think his punching technique left a lot to be desired, but I was impressed with his ability to change up in strategy when the time called for it. However, he suffers in the resume category. His undefeated record looks great on paper, but he stayed at a division he should have left many years ago, instead of staying in Europe defending the bull**** WBO belt against some pretty worthless comp. Everybody else on the list with the exception of maybe Lopez has a better resume than Joe Calzaghe. I think you short changed Lewis. He was a Heavyweight sure, he lost to some fighters who he should have beat first time around, but he always vindicated himself in rematches. He took on everybody there was and emerged as the best of the best in a very competitive and good 90s Heavyweight era. He was also one of the most polished big men I've ever seen, considering you're bringing skills into the equation. I'd have him above Trinidad, Lopez, and Calzaghe.
Pretty good list and I agreed with most of it.........Without the heavyweights, this is about right....Roy may be a little high, just looking at these great fighters just brings chills down my spine.....Interestingly enough, out of these 10 fighters, which one DIDN'T fight another member of the Elite 10..............................Floyd "Money" Mayweather 10. Oscar DeLaHoya 9. Joe Calzaghe 8. Juan Manuel Marquez 7. Marco Antonio Barrera 6. Felix Trinidad 5. Erik Morales 4. Shane Mosley 3. Roy Jones 2. Bernard Hopkins 1. Floyd/or Manny Pacquaio http://youtube.com/watch?v=ox89t3MOKdM
