10 that spring to mind: Rose vs Rudkin Saldivar vs Winstone (any) Laguna vs Ortiz I Griffith vs Benvenuti (Probably 1, but all were good) Fullmer vs Basilio II (only because 1 was 59) Cotton vs Torres Frazier vs Quarry I Frazier vs Mathis Harada vs Jofre (1 for me but either) Ortiz vs Elorde (1 but either)
The third Patterson/Johansson fight comes to mind. This might be of interest to the thread starter; 'The Ring' 100 Greatest title fights, from their 'Holiday Special' in 1996, with a paragraph on each fight. http://eastsideboxing.com/forum/showthread.php?t=408850
For the 1960's I'd go: Eder Jofre vs. Jose Medel I Charley Scott vs. Gaspar Ortega Joey Giardello vs. Rocky Rivero I Carlos Ortiz vs. Paolo Rosi Marcel Pigou vs. Eduardo Lausse Emile Griffith vs. Jose Stable Jose Stable vs. Charley Scott Carmen Basilio vs. Gaspar Ortega Rocky Rivero vs. Florentino Fernandez I Gene Fullmer vs. Florentino Fernandez Not one Ring Magazine fight of the year there, and I'd probably add other non-Fight of the Year fights as honourable mentions before Ring's selections, like both Harada-Jofre fights, Saldivar-Winstone II, Charley Scott vs. Ralph Dupas IV. Mind you I haven't seen Giardello-Hank or Joe Brown vs. Dave Charnley II to say whether they were any good or not.
Bump of old thread as it's my area of interest at the moment. Any other great fights not already mentioned?
The Griffith-Benvanuti trilogy was a favorite of mine...but I wonder, whatever happened to the films of bouts 2 & 3?
