He should have pushed for unification bouts a bit harder.

This thread made me thinks also about the better 'losing challengers' first two that came to mind were Tommy Farr and Billy Conn against Joe Louis - as far as the ten best heavyweights who never won the title then I'll have to have a bit of a longer sit back and think on that one

I really think that until the spoon fight he was always close to unifying but after the struggle he had, he just didn't wanna know at the top level any more.

A good list, but I think we have to take Holmes and Klitschko as having been lineal.

Cheers Jan. I think your right. Although neither where, or probably never will be undisputed they are clearly the top heavyweights from their respective eras. As far as lists go, these are incredibly subjective, but I don't think I've seen many lists that I'd openly disagree with. It would probably be between Spoon, Byrd, Ibeabuchi and a few others.

Holmes stands out and he had several chances to against Tate,Page,Coetzee, Weaver,Thomas,Dokes and Page and all in his era

Vlad won just about every title except for his brothers and should Vitali retire, I am sure Vlad fights the winner of the elimination. I can certainly understand him not fighting his brother. I think these ABC titles are bogus anyway and Vitali won it against Sam Peter who Vlad beat 2x there should be one international title and a solid list of deserving contenders...these are not the days of Don King and his WBC and WBA and IBF puppets that were set up in Mexico etc, to avoid US Federal laws
