1. Salvador Sanchez 2. Julio Cesar Chavez 3. Ricardo Lopez 4. Marco Antonio Barrera 5. Erik Morales 6. Carlos Zarate ????
You might want to ask that question Sunday ;-). Looks good so far. A couple others that come to mind are Ruben Olivares and Lupe Pintor.
1. Julio Cesar Chavez 2. Ruben Olivares 3. Vicente Saldivar 4. Salvador Sanchez 5. Oscar De La Hoya(Mexican-American) 6. Ricardo Lopez 7. Erik Morales 8. Marco Antonio Barrera 9. Miguel Canto 10. Carlos Zarate
Barrera would rather be one spot behind any other fighter!!! I actually agree with that though, i was always a great Barrera fan in his prime, and therefore always wanted him to beat Morales when they met, but in hindsight im a massive admirer of Morales and would also agree that you have him one spot above Barrera. I dont know how my list would go, but yours is a good one.
The only thing i would disagree on personally is that i may have DLH lower and Zarate higher, but i think you'll have good reasons/criteria for how you compiled your list
olivares really is underrated on this forum. he doesnt get the credit he deserves Here is my 10: JCC Salvador Sanchez Olivares Oscar De La Hoya MAB Zarate Ricardo Lopez Vicente Salvidor Morales Kid Azteca Canto (if dlh doesnt count)
That's a good list Sweet Pea. I'd have a hard time leaving Lupe Pintor out of the top ten based on his efforts against Zarate and Gomez. I guess I'd yank Oscar out and claim him for America. Is there a fight one should watch or try to get a hold of to view Olivares at his best? I tend to think most of what I've seen is when he was on the down side.
Cool, thanks. I've seen a lot of his fights from '74 on. I know he's ranked really high on the "Ring 80 for the last 80" list. #29 I believe. I can't justify that from what I've seen, but admittedly, I haven't seen enough of his fights. Either way, there's no shame in getting stopped by the likes of Arguello, Lopez and Pedroza.
ruben was like 56-0 (nearly all KO's) before getting beat by chucho castillo in 1970 and that was on a cut. he soon gained revenge in his younger days, the only guy who properly knocked him out was arguello. i know that lopez ko'd him in the 'shot' years
............Actually, Herrera bounced him pretty good in taking the bantamweight title from Ruben. A much more conclusive victory than the cut-induced TKO by Castillo. I rank Ruben right up there though. A bit inconsistent once he started taking on the real world-class fighters (perhaps as much because he didn't want to give up any of the rich pageantry of life while training).
He was past his prime in all of those bouts, but if you'll notice, even as the smaller man he was outboxing Arguello prior to the stoppage.
