I don't think he was. I'm saying it isn't justifiable to have him out top ten when Shavers is routinely touted #1 pound-for-pound. Based on what? All of numerous KOs over rated opposition? They aren't there.
I personally don't have him at #1 p4p, I just have him up there in the hvyweight division, because of his peers and his opponents testimonies. I don't think its a mere slump that everyone says he hits the hardest. Holmes, Ali.. you name it.
First of all it's Joe "Louis" not Joe "Lewis" you tit. Second of all you lost all credibility by comparing either Klitschko to Primo Carnera, the circus strongman and not much else. Next you'll try to compare them to Jess Willard................. Even the the brothers themselves fight very differently from each other & if you don't notice that you don't know boxing. But we knew that already................
Foreman actually knocked the better fighters he fought out. Shavers didn't. Shavers best KO is probably Norton and we all know what kind of Chin he has.......
That is very much true. I think even Ken Norton has underrated power, look what he did to Duane Bobick, who was on a run and a highly touted prospect.
Well, they're both up there in the Heavyweight Division. Not much separation in terms of numerical ranking. It isn't really a bone I feel I've gotta pick too strongly about knowing damn well there isn't any way to tell. I'm more into Overall Punchers and including layers such as speed, technique, accuracy, use of angles, combinations, body shots, etc. There's little doubt Tyson > Shavers there.
No order I'm just naming guys who I believe are top punchers Thomas Hearns Randall Bailey - mike jones proved it Joe Louis G. Foreman Tyson R. Duran Pacman Felix Trinidad Edwin Valero - with a KO percentage like his you can't count him out
Right so look at what the thread is asking for. The hardest puncher. Not quickest puncher, best body puncher, best punching technique. We're talking about raw power, and with the amount of heavyweights that have compared his power to the likes of Foreman, Lyle, Tyson etc and has been read above them by every common opponent (Ali and Holmes being the most of note) it's really shows your agenda if you pick either over him.
Bobick was known for having a good chin and had previously stopped Larry Holmes in the amateurs. He was a favorite going in against Norton and Norton was said to be weak early on, Duane tried to put the pressure on and Norton bombed on him with overhand rights. I think Ken Nortons power is underrated, personally.
shavers did ko jimmy young though....cooney was just a cut eye stoppage...shavers dropped him a couple of times...the only fighter i think to do that to jimmy
I'll have to watch it again but from what I remember Bobick threw caution to the wind & walked into big counters from Norton.
Thanks man, I'm actually pretty pleased with it, could move Shavers down but I've bought into the folklore a bit.
It shows an agenda to point out his lack KOs against rated opposition and question his #1 placing pound-for-pound? All I said was that if he's going to be #1, it isnt justifiable to have Tyson (or Foreman) out of the top ten. I didn't claim he didn't hit harder with one shot; if anything I insinuated he's above him.
