In response to the putrid P4P list recently released by The Ring, I wanted to take a crack at doing one myself. I appreciate any input you guys have. 1. Manny Pacquiao 2. Juan Manuel Marquez 3. Bernard Hopkins 4. Shane Mosley 5. Paul Williams 6. Ivan Calderon 7. Miguel Cotto 8. Chad Dawson 9. Chris John 10. Vic Darchinyan Notes: 1. As many have pointed out, it's difficult to include either Vazquez or R. Marquez after more than a year of inactivity. Should Marquez give a good showing of himself in his upcoming comeback fight, his inclusion would naturally be reconsidered. The same goes for Vazquez, though he does not have anything currently scheduled. 2. Given the absence of the above two, it moves Williams into a very high spot. I considered giving it to Calderon, but his resume does not seem adequate, especially given Williams' recent run. If PTP fights Dzindziruk this year and wins impressively, I believe it will put him into the top three. 3. I keep Cotto as high as he is because the Margarito controvery casts some doubt on the dominaint victory of last year. His offensive skill set is still top notch. 4. Dawson has quality wins over Adamek, Johnson, and Tarver. Combine this with his outstanding physical ability and undefeated record and he definitely seems to warrant a place on the list. 5. Whether it's questionable or not, John has a victory over #2 J.M. Marquez and a robbery of a draw against solid 126 pounder Rocky Juarez. He showed himself to be a very strong, defensive fighter with troubling speed in his past bout. 6. While Darchinyan was KTFO by Donaire, he has since won bouts against solid contender Kirilov, Top 10 P4Per Mijares, and solid contender Arce. Donaire's recent destruction of Martinez makes this more of a conversation. For me, it comes down to Darchinyan not being a P4Per when Donaire knocked him out, whereas Mijares was when dominated by Darchinyan.
john is solid but limited fighter...john should have lost only 2 rounds to juarez. losing 4 rounds mean he lacks overall ability (questionable stamina)
PBF is now unretired, he should go back in (no.2 ?). Also I would put David Haye ahead of a few guys, perhaps in 9th or 10th place, he was basically undisputed Cruiserweight champ and has moved up to Heavy and not been beaten there 'yet'.
1. Manny Pacquiao 2. Floyd Mayweather Jr 3. Juan Manuel Marquez 4. Shane Mosely 5. Miguel Cotto 6. Bernard Hopkins 7. Paul Williams 8. Israel Vasquez 9. Juan Manuel Lopez 10. Rafael Marquez Just missing out....Calderon, John, Darchinyan, Margarito (still quality)
Manny Pacquiao Floyd Mayweather Juan Manuel Marquez Bernard Hopkins Paul Williams Shane Mosley Nonito donaire Vic Darchinyan Miguel Cotto Chad Dawson I can't justify calderon being p4p w/o a meaningful fight on his resume.
Nah. You can't slap PBF straight back in there after an 18-month absence, especially not straight in at 2. He has to show something first. He's easily good enough, IMO, but it's the principle of the thing. You can't just give the guy a pass when nearly all the others have fought recently.
Here's mine: 1. Manny Pacquiao 2. Juan Manuel Marquez 3. Bernard Hopkins 4. Floyd Mayweather Jr 5. Miguel Cotto 6. Shane Mosley 7. Ivan Calderon 8. Paul Williams 9. Vic Darchinyan 10. David Haye
what the hell has cotto done to be put at 7th? in fact what th hell has he done to even be put on the list? ....NOTHING! where is williams and caldron? have to say, this ring list is a bit s**t!
Those fighters do not deserve to be in the list they are inactive and maybe they are not world class anymore.
