That's absolutely right, the lie that Leonard wanted to trade with Duran was picked up by Leonard's ally the media to explain why he got his tail kicked. There was an interview with Ray soon after the fight before the myth was created ,where he was asked ,"why didn't you move like you said you would before the fight to avoid Duran's rushes?" He responded, " I couldn't, Duran blocked his avenues."
I don't know why you'd look forward to it, Mike. He has little to offer beyond a modernist agenda that says anyone 70s onwards obliterates Joe Louis, Tyson decpitates everyone from the 50s ... yada yada. Never backs it up with any reasoning just the same old aggressive, boring tripe. His defence of Duran in this thread is typical of his ignorance, although he claims to know what Duran was suffering from. Perhaps he could tell Roberto who's never been too sure. And all this 'Duran was told too late'. He was the f******g champion, FFS! He had the belt and dictated the terms. Good God! People act like Leonard was some mega God in 1980 who had the whole sport at his feet. He didn't. By beating him, Duran was the bigger name. The comment on 'bitches run' (so-called macho lines like that are a red rag to me that we have a tool on our hands) along with recent posts around the BLM movement also indicate an obnoxious side as well as being misinformed or wilfully ignorant. If I may say, your posts deserve better responses and better responders and I think your courtesy, while admirable, was misplaced.
He thrashed Maxie Rosenbloom, Tommy Loughran and Gene Tunney, so we know he had to be good at it to some capacity.
That's interesting, I've never heard that before. It should be pretty obvious, though. It's there on film. Leonard did better when he traded, and so that's what he did. When he tried punching and moving in the early goings, he was taking a pasting.
I have always tried to ( whether in life, or here ) give people some respect, and to consider what opinions they hold, albeit even though they do not chime with my own, I am thoroughly across the type of man he is, and the small minded somewhat bigoted attitudes that form his outlook, I tried to show him some leniency and compassion, in the vein hope that it might lead him to reassess some of his uniformed statements and to maybe in future take a breath and assess the words he is about to commit to this post, but alas you seem to believe that my guidance will fall on deaf ears, shame. Appreciate your thoughts and sentiments on this Eddie. stay safe buddy.
Actually, Duran complained about his heart, Ray Arcel, said, "nobody quits on me, what heart, he's got no heart!
I like Shawn Porter here. He didn't win all of them, but he put everyone on the phone booth (except Ugas).
