Lee Q. Murray might be number 1 for me. A switch-hitter ala' Marvin Hagler. Solid boxer and crippling puncher. Plus he had Ray Arcel in his corner. He was kicked out of Tony Galento's training camp when just out of the amateurs for dropping TTT in sparring. He and Arcel both claimed in the press that Lee Q. dropped Louis in sparring as well (to the best of my knowledge, Louis and his camp never denied this).

Henry Flakes. Probably the only ranking boxer to ever die in the electric chair. A crazy story there.
