MMA isn't a style it is Mixed Martial Arts, aka, do what you want within a rule set. There is no such thing as "MMA Boxing". There are Boxers who know how to defend take-downs and submissions. MMA is just rules which lay out possibilities. You can train for whatever you want. Or not train as seen in the case of James Toney!
I thought Randy Couture leaning on a cage and hugging James Toney for 5 minutes already proved that MMA guys are tougher than boxers? Dana White told me so.
Read my post, I said without training. As if you just put a boxer in mma ring as is, he would end up on his back and not really have any answer for it. A mma fighter would get picked apart in a boxing ring but would last longer. It is true I believe a boxer stands a far greater chance to cross over into mma with training. Boxing is a takes a life time to learn, you don't just simply jumping into boxing overnight.
Whatever, from someone who's never stepped foot in a ring. When I say mma boxing I mean he has to learn takedown defense which means you change your stance. I like Junior DOS Santos he's probably the best boxer in MMA but wouldn't hack in a real boxing ring.
Toney was lumped up pretty badly. He applied a principal within his fighting game. I think it had more to do with Toney's lack of preparation and Dana White's desire to match Toney HORRIBLY. Iron Boy was amazing at applying the principals of Boxing. I consider him a great fighter. Some may argue, but he knew his game.
Thank Dana for guys like Melvin who can still make money in combat sports, moreso in MMA than boxing in some cases.
What the hell are you talking about? I Box and did BJJ. I also spar with MT fighters. I was watching Pride and UFC where guys were coming in dressed in their respective combat sports garb probably before you knew MMA existed. Don't tell me what the hell I know. (...and nobody "knows" crap in fighting you ALWAYS are learning.) Change your stance? WTF? I watch MMA all of the time. The stance a Boxer or Striker looking to land fists takes is as much offensive as it is defensive. Probe with the lead to set up the power. There is no magical MMA Boxing stance. There is only being prepared to recognize and defend a shot at the legs. Blow smoke up someone else's ass.
Ok puff puff pass, on to the next one. Don't need to explain my credentials such a wast of time. 20 thousand post in 3 years, you did all that while spending all your time rackng up post on the net.
I highly doubt that you've done any sort of MMA if you don't know that MMA trainers prefer to take your normal Boxing stance and square it up so that it's easier to sprawl on a shot. There are two things wrong with the traditional Boxing stance for MMA. 1. Standing at a perpendicular angle to your opponent hands him a single leg takedown and prevents you being able to transition to a sprawl position as quickly. 2. Having a heavy lead leg leaves you open to low kicks. You can't bring it up in time to check a roundhouse. That is a Fact.
Boxing is such a tiny slice of the combat arts. You have a guy that strictly focuses on that aspect you would expect him to be better than someone who doesn't. Not hard to figure out.
Leaving the lead leg in front as a bait for someone to kick can help get you a takedown, and also lead to a good sprawl against a mediocre takedown.
