I don't think there is conclusive evidence to suggest Mike Tyson was anymore skilled than Marco Antonio Barrera. Furthermore, there IS conclusive evidence to suggest that not only did Barrera have a striving career from 1989-2007, he beat better fighters than Tyson did during his very short reign at Heavyweight. No way should Tyson be higher than Barrera on the ATG list, Barrera beats him for longevity and resume, and skill set is comparable.

 

I think the DLH win will come up before his victory over Margo does.

Tyson beat them in more devastating manner. Its also easy to see on tape who was the naturally more gifted fighter. Tyson had ATG speed & power and there are many who would say h2h, Tyson was the best boxer ever. I dont thing any claim has ever been made for MAB at any weight class...possibly 122 but that division is not nearly as rich in history as HW.

 

It's indeed true that Mike Tyson blew away the majority of his competition prior to this first loss, but MAB was also tearing through 122lb and was a P4P ranked fighter at a similar age to the also very young Tyson. However, let's discuss a criteria I feel to be much more important.

What great prime fighters did Mike Tyson ever defeat?

I think in terms of skill set, Marco and Tyson are very comparable, but I give the benefit of the doubt to Barrera because he sustained it through a 20 year career, whereas Tyson after his first professional loss, was never the same. Barrera improved after his first loss. Marco was ultimately the more versatile, and that factors.

I don't think there is evidence of any sorts to make a claim that Tyson should be considered the best fighter ever H2H. Mainly, because he never beat a great prime fighter in his entire career. He fell short against Holyfield, and also against Lewis - arguably the two greatest Heavyweights during the 90s. Barrera, in contrast, fought one of the best Featherweights of the 90s, Naseem Hamed, and gave him a lesson in Boxing. Likewise, Morales arguably the 2nd best 122lb fighter ever, lost the trilogy to Marco. These are all facts.

Maybe so, but I don't see how anyone could make such a claim. You have to earn you success in this game, and although Tyson blew away his competition to begin with, he lost to Douglas and the two best fighters he ever fought. He was a great talent, but he burnt himself out early.

Marco Antonio Barrera should be much higher than Tyson the ATG list with his superior resume, longevity, and comparable skillset.

If you are rating extraordinary, great & excellent, and not going merely by an interpretation of their record then you can drop Calzaghe, Hatton, & Hamed. Those three are just merely good.

If you go by record then it is reasonable to pick Joe. But, Joe is really just a hair above an Ottke as an athlete.
