Hey guys. I was thinking today of some new video ideas. An idea I came up with was a top 20 HW countdown video, edited by me, featuring you! I have a plan mapped out in my head, where we can create a top 20 heavyweight of all time list through a series of carefully planned forum threads, involving lengthy discussions, voting, and more. First of all, I want to know if this is somethings you guys are interested in being a part of. Nobody will agree with the final list, but that will be the beauty of it. All you would have to do, is do what you do here every day: Discuss your opinions. If you guys are on board, all I would ask for is a person/persons to step up and volunteer their consulting services over the course of creating and finalizing the list. All I would want is a person or a group of people to consult with before I make any decisions when compiling the list. Dedication, and a person whose confident in their planning skills would be the perfect criteria. You would basically be co-producing this project. I promise that if we can get a list together, I will deliver on a fantastic video that you will all have enjoyed being a part of.
So we just make a list and say yes or no on them lol. I think the suspects in the top 8 or 9 will be the same. Ali, Louis, Marciano, Holmes, Dempsey, Lewis, Johnson, ete.
Wills should probably be on it but there's not much available footage of him outside of training footage & the Uzcudun fight.
true but the same goes for langford and that won't stop him from making the list wills' record against langford alone will probably put him in solid top 20 contention, let alone his full resume
With the newfound Langford-Jeannette footage, it should be no problem to have Langford added in. With Wills though, you can hardly show him get flattened in a video that's supposed to highlight his skills. Perhaps the only option is to make up a highlight of him with pictures and the small amount of film that is there against Uzcudun and in training, unless someone is gracious enough to upload other footage of Wills.
1) Muhammad Ali 2) Joe Louis 3) Rocky Marciano 4) Lennox Lewis 5) Larry Holmes 6) Mike Tyson 7) Joe Frazier 8) George Foreman 9)Sonny Liston 10) Evander Holyfield
true but the video evidence is gonna be tricky for many of the guys on the top 20. i've not seen the wills video to be honest but his resume is remarkable, especially consider the "colour line" challenges he faced. dempsey himself has minimal footage of him anywhere near his prime and the firpo footage is hardly flattering even with the result. peter jackson and bob fitzsimmons have minimal or no footage available (a cursory look shows nothing for jackson) but fitz is undoubtedly top 20 and jackson in contention. video evidence is tricky for me because great fighters often look shitty on video of the day (the greb footage is not glowing for instance). It has to be balanced with records and first hand reports and wills, based on those, it likely bottom end of top 20
There's a good amount of film on Dempsey so it shouldn't be a problem. With knockouts like the ones over Willard and Sharkey, as well as the flashy bobbing & weaving he displays in sparring sessions, Dempsey's "legacy" on filmed footage is well secure. Fitzsimmons and Jackson will be left out I'm sure. Top 20 material yes, but there's no sense in putting them in a highlight video when there's nothing to highlight. The biggest challenge is Wills in my view as he's clearly top 20, but there's not much of him out there.
no way in hell should patterson be above tyson (doubt he will be but just saying...) schmeling likely won't either but he has one of the top 3 heavyweight wins of all times so he'll be top 20 for sure
you know what i'm a jackass....i didn't even think realize this was a highlight reel so yeah, footage is pretty necessary. fitz though we have footage against corbett i believe. shitty, shitty footage but he could be slipped in there. bang on though: for jackson and wills there's nothing
