1 Benny Leonard 2 Joe Gans 3 Roberto Duran 4 Carlos Ortiz 5 Pernell Whitaker 6 Ike Williams 7 Tony Canzoneri 8 Lou Ambers 9 Bob Cat Montgomery 10 Joe Brown I feel less sure about this list than any other so far Honorable mention Packey McFarland (should be in my top 10 but is not...gotta fix that one lol) Sammy Mandell Freddie Welsh (took a look at him earlier this week...seems like a top 10....or at least 8-12 range?) I am not content with this list so no more honorable mentions from me. I gotta redo this one....I love Montgomery so that clouds my judgement? He is likely top 15 neighborhood
1. Benny Leonard 2. Joe Gans 3. Carlos Ortiz 4. Roberto Duran 5. Packey McFarland 6. Pernell Whitaker 7. Ike Williams 8. Tony Canzoneri 9. Joe Brown 10. Decent list, but Marquez shouldn't be there. I would replace him with someone along the lines of Joe Brown or Bob Montgomery. I would also place Ike williams at 4 or above. I would also place Mcfarland above Ortiz IMO. I also like the mention of Ambers. Very underrated.
I like his competition better, he was just about as dominant and I think head to head would win a series 2-1 (all being close).
