Top 20 prospects in UK

Discussion in 'British Boxing Forum' started by War Lomachenko, Aug 31, 2013.

  1. Anyone who followed the amateurs knows Yafai never medalled at the major tournaments, he was always just below the elite fighters, he always seemed to fall short. He lost a lot of times in the 1st or 2nd round. I thinking he'll be the same in the pros, probably European champ max and maybe fight for the world title but that's it, but he won't be world champion he's not good enough imo I think he's being overhyped. He wasn't even number 1 in Britain in his weightclass, Andrew Selby was number 1, Selby beat him by about 20 points for fuucks sake.

The hate for Stalker on here I really don't understand, he's actually one of Britain's most sucessful amateurs ever.
He almost medalled in every major tournament, he got robbed in the quarter finals at the olympics he clearly won that fight so we should be at least calling him a olympic bronze medalist.

he was World championship bronze medalist, European Silver medalist, and commonwealth gold medalist, he was ranked number 1 in the world in his weight class going into the Olympics. The only british amateurs in the last 20 years that have been more sucessful than him are Luke Campbell and Frankie Gavin.

Now maybe you don't understand boxing. But there is absolutely no way a guy who was that successful in the amateurs will be ''British title at the absolute most'' that is an extreme form of trolling. It's even more hilarious when you take into account the division he is in - Light welterweight is weak at all levels especially at british level. This is a guy that beat fighters like Domenico Valentino for ****s sake.

He will be European champion - absolute minimum, and will no doubt at least challenge for a world title. He's a very talented boxer who is a good all rounder in particular his speed impresses me and his array of shots. I think he has looked good so far in the pros apart from one bad night. Someone with his amateur pedigree and talent shouldnt be wrote off. Too many negative hating trolls on here.

He won a silver medal at the 2010 European world championships.

Apart from the 2008 olympics, in which tournaments was he eliminated in the first two rounds? (For your information he also made the quarter finals of the 2009 world championships where he 'lost' a rather dubious decision).

Selby beat Yafai in their last meeting by 14 points. Incidentally Yafai also beat Selby in their first two encounters. None of which is remotely relevant to how they'll fair in the pros.

Stalker had a very good amateur career - but I still think Harrison (Olympic & Commonwealth gold), Degale (Olympic gold/Commonwealth bronze) & Anthony Joshua (Olympic gold/world silver) had clearly had greater success as amateurs. Just because Stalker won 3 medals doesn't necessarily make him a greater success.

Will write a longer post later on but Stalker is 29 ffs. He's not an emerging talent let's be clear on that.

He has looked decidedly average so far in his pro career.

You are mental if you think he will challenge for a world title. Absolutely mental.

  5. the point I'm making is there's was constant tournaments -worlds europeans etc that Yafai failed to medal he got beat many many times he was no Lomachenko put it that way, didn't qualify for the last Olympics, he entered the pros off the back of failures. I seen/ read of him getting beat too many times, I don't think he'll be world champion.

I said 'about' , 20 points or 14 points - still a very wide margin, bouts from years ago don't mean nothing selby improved massively and has been a totally different fighter the last few years. did you see the fight. Selby was a league above him. There is absolutely no way Yafai will ever be more succesful than andrew selby.

Stalker was well respected in amateur circles, and was a world class fighter ( much more succesful than Yafai) , you can't go from being a world class fighter to an average fighter overnight.

Joshua won the gold medal via robbery he lost 2 or 3 fights, it was the biggest fix Ive seen in boxing. stalker medalled everywhere, he got robbed by the judges at the olympics of making history as the first british fighter to medal at every major tournament. A lot of top amateurs turn pro late.

I think you are mental if you think stalker isnt talented. I can sense you have a bias for Yafai. So we'll leave it there. agree to disagree as I don't like biased views from family members of fighters or fans being biased just because they are the same religion as fighters like you probably are with Yafai. Please spare me the essay you wrote enough.

  6. no one is gonna agree with my top 20 I knew that when I wrote it, everybody has different opinions so theres no need for people to cry about it.

Why don't you people just write your top 20 instead.

Just because Kal Yafai didnt medal at many major tournaments does not mean he wont do big things as a PRO.

people on here have got a ****ing massive hard on for Yafai, he put him on the list it's not like he left him out, he's not even an active fighter he hasnt fought for months Ive forgot about him. People cry if you don't follow their opinion like sheep on here.
he went out in the 1st round at the olympics in 2008 and didnt even qualify for 2012.
He's getting overhyped , as is Callum smith, as is Buglioni, and Ogogo.
No need to ****ing moan about the fact some don't rate him as high as others for ****s sake
we overhype our fighters too much in Britain.

The only one that is special and deserves the big expectations is Luke Campbell
