How would today's 5 top cruiserweights fare against the top contenders from 1937?

    Usyk v. Schmeling

    Gassiev v. Farr

    Bellew v. Mann

    Briedis v. Lovell

    Lebedev v. Galento

(All rankings based on Ring Magazine)

    Clean sweep for 1937
Maybe Bellew earns a win over Mann.

Saw that coming. I'm curious though-- hw did you come up with Lovell over Briedis?

    Clean sweep for 1937.

If the 2017 guys were any good, they would go after the big money at heavyweight.

Judging pros who are only a dozen fights into their careers is asinine.

This ones obviously hard, so I based it on rankings in respective divisions. I like Briedis a lot, and his KO over Charr was very impressive. Lovell was very consistent, also beat a few guys bigger than him. And we have the benefit of seeing his entire career. This could be the production bias (lack of media) working against me, but Lovell doesn't seem to have many big name wins outside of Godoy. I don't mind a pick for Briedis here but I'm admittedly not making this choice with as much information as I'd like.

And most of them undoubtedly would've fought at heavyweight in other eras, including especially the 1930s.

They wouldn't have had any choice.

Being a standout in the cruiserweight division, does not on any level correspond to being a standout in the 1930s heavyweight division.

For much of its history the cruiserweight division has not even attracted the best and brightest who could make the weight.

Roy Jones and Chris Byrd were the two best potential cruiserweights of their generation.

    Schmeling
    Farr
    Mann
Lovell. Could go either way. Don't know a lot about him but Breidis hasn't beaten anyone.
    Galento

With what we know now, it's hard to argue 2017 wouldn't have it's share of success.

What do we know, the result of one fight? Does that completely change your mindset?

No, but I think it's enough to not be confident of a 37 clean sweep

I think I'd actually go for the more recent team to have the most wins,I'm just saying ,"one swallow does not a summer make".

Not only is it not a sweep now Usyk could beat all of the 37 guys in a few moths back to back.
