I would be amenable to revising some of my picks.

A couple of men on that list have significantly enhanced their resumes since the date of this thread.

And Usyk would crush all of the 30s guys listed?

You would still have to give Schmeling a good chance.

Yes- Max was an excellent boxer and an ATG human being. I just think we have to favour Usyk.

Usyk would have cleaned house (including a brutal stoppage of Louis). Gassiev would have beaten everyone of the contenders and probably split with Louis. I dunno, Louis is better offensively (thanks to his blazing yet silky combinations) than Gassiev, but Gassiev would get to Louis first.

Why!? He wasa good fighter, but he never met anyone with the skills of Usyk. That would be an ugly fight for Max, and reminder why Germans don't belong in Ukraine.

Now that I would have to dispute.

Amongst others he shared a ring with Jack Sharkey and Joe Louis.

Bottom line, a guy like Schmeling always has a chance, as he showed against Louis.

Louis, while already near his zenith, was still young. He lost for a detriment in the skill department, yes. But even more he lost because he was unable to adjust. So that lost can be attributed to Louis' youth. He'd also get dropped by other fighters: Buddy Baer, Jimmy Braddock, Tony Galento, he was rocked by little Billy Conn. But he adjusted. It's a two-sided coint - Louis' style was such that even at his best, with a depth of experience, he was still easily tagged, even by lesser men than Schmeling. But at least he could adjust - even if all the meant was digging deep and doubling down on the attack. Against Schmeling he was a deer in headlights.

Really, the stuff Usyk does in the ring is pure poetry. He is on a completely different level than Louis, whom I respect very much. I see it like Duran and Arguello.

Sharkey went life and death with Mickey Walker. He was technically sound, but nothing special. He was also one of the worst at running hot and cold... which is saying a lot for the sport of Boxing!

While I am impressed by what I have seen of Usky, we still have a way to go before we can start comparing him to Louis.
