1. Louis 2. Ali 3. Johnson 4. Holmes 5. Lewis 6. Foreman 7. Liston 8. Tyson 9. Holyfield 10. Marciano 11. Frazier 12. Jeffries 13. Dempsey 14. Wills 15. Charles 16. Wlad 17. Langford 18. Walcott 19. Bowe 20. Norton 21. Schmeling 22. Corbett 23. Patterson 24. Jackson 25. Tunney
Interesting list good to see Jeffries higher than most have him - can't have Wills above Langford though under any circumstances - but you got me think maybe I should do a list including all heavyweights (ie not just the champs) like you
I like it....might be the closest thing I have seen to my own....not sure if that is good or bad, take it how you will! 01 Louis 02 Ali 03 Holmes 04 Foreman 05 Lewis 06 Frazier 07 Marciano 08 Tyson 09 Johnson 10 Holyfield 11 Dempsey 12 Liston 13 Jeffries 14 Wlad 15 Schmeling 16 Bowe 17 Vitali 18 Patterson 19 Charles 20 Walcott 21 Wills 22 Sullivan 23 Langford 24 Tunney 25 Jackson
There have been a lot of horrendous lists on this thread, but this one is actually pretty good. I especially like the way you rank them in groups of more or less similar levels. Not sure I'd place Sullivan, Jeffries, Johnson, or Jackson that high. I think there are a lot of question marks around the quality of fighters in their era; but at least nobody is arguing for the inclusion of James Figg, Jack Broughton, or Daniel Mendoza. And Lewis couldn't beat either of the Klitschko's without an injury or other freak occurrence. Holyfield maybe should be above Tyson, because he beat Tyson, and he has the better resume, even if he never looked as ferocious in action.
Yer like I said mate, I'm still researching Sullivan so I'll admit he was just kinda dropped in their at 25 but what I will say is that when he stepped up in competition he lost and retired, which certainly makes me question if he was actually fighting decent opposition throughout his career. I thoroughly believe that the likes of Jeffries, Corbett, Johnson, Langford etc would all beat him with a certain degree of ease (maybe not so much Corbett)
:good right you are mate. I'm pretty sure I'd be right in saying that your top 16 is almost identical to a list I've previously done if you were to move Tyson down to 10. I did a bit of a re shuffle from 16 and above. Mine used to be pretty much the same here or there, However having Louis at one has now prompted me to move up Marciano and Charles, therefore raising Walcott as well as they are virtually inseparable in my eyes. I'd also love to put Wills above Dempsey but I just can't bring myself to do it. Harry having never held the world title really drops him down in my criteria.

Good List, and your are showing your balls and that is what its all about your opinions are as good as anyone....I love Rocky at # 1, he is one of my favorites. I think Louis should be higher than Johnson and Dempsey but that is a matter of opinion ( I remember a few well respected old timers that would agree with you)....Good list
top 3 is intact IMO, Holmes a little high IMO but not as bad as most on ESB, I personly would rate Dempsey higher than Johnson but I guess its how you feel about the era...All in all good rating
I feel with that top 3 it could go in any order and not look to bad. I like Foreman above Holmes, but not over Lewis although his head to head abilities make it close. I feel Johnson faced better opposition than Dempsey simple as. Had he faced Wills it may be a different story, but not fighting the best fighter bar you in your era really hurts him as well as losing to a boxer-puncher like Tunney, showing he couldn't live with a pure boxer although Jacks initial skills are underrated.
