I guess it depends on whether you disregard RJJ's fights once he started being knocked unconscious left and right (I hope I don't sound to trolly but his team had to literally scratch him off the canvas everytime he was stopped) since many considered him visibly faded by then or you take his entire career into consideration.
Hopkins is building his legacy at a far more advanced age than RJJ and deserves more credit for that than RJJ did for his performances when his reflexes were at their peak. Losses are part of one's resume and should have a visible effect on the ATG rankings.

That's what I'm saying. Whitaker is a clear cut top 3 for this time frame, with only Duran and Leonard deserving of a higher ranking. He'd be top 20-25 in an all time list, although many would have him higher.

Yes, I also had these two in mind when I wrote that paragraph. Ali's Parkinson's desease is a valid explanation for his losses to sup-bar opponents, as for Duran you are right.

One can make the case that only the victories at an advanced age add to the resume whereas losses are dismissed due to the fighter being faded or shot. In some cases that's appropriate, in others it's not.

The Klitschkos and 23 of their opponents. Make random choices, doesn't really matter.
