Well, tell me what you think is the 3 best wins by the fighters : Best wins !! Big wins for the resume...... Jose Legra Orlando Canizales Eder Jofre Lupe Pintor Khaosai Galaxy Jeff Chandler Miguel Canto Johnny Tapia PS - is not the best performance....3 Best Wins....in terms of legacy
I agree with Canto...... For Jofre : Caldwell, Caraballo, Legra (very close decision but anyway, is a great win) Legra : maybe Miranda I, II and Winstone..... Tapia : Romero, Konadu and Jorge Julio in my opinion
A guy like Carabello is a good fighter, but I think Sanchez could be a bit underrated as he is less known, we have to remember he was a recognized champion of the time, and that cannot be said about Medal or Carabello.
Jeff Chandler - Julian Solis x2, Jorge Lujan, Eijiro Murata x2 (plus a draw) - Chandler gave Solis his first two losses. Lujan was a very solid champion. Murata holds draws against both Chandler and Pintor, which were both close fights (no home cooking). For Chandler, I also thought about Oscar Muniz, Johnny Carter, Gaby Canizales and Hector Cortez. Chandler fought Cortez up a weight and hand him down 3 times. This is the same Cortez who did a little better, IMO, against Azumah Nelosn. Anyway, I just hink the guys I listed were better fighters at the time Chandler fought them. Lupe Pintor - Carlos Zarate (not as big a robbery as made out to be). Great effort by Pintor whether you hate the decision or not. Alberto Davila - Good champ and great technician. And last but not least, a personal shout for Johnny Owen.
I thought he beat him also, though Pintor rallied in the end to make it close IMO. Fought in Japan too. But around that time, the WBC had some favorite fighters (Pintor for one) and the WBA (Pedroza) who were difficult to dislodge on a decision. I think very highly of both of those guys, but they did end up on the good side of close decisions.
Sanchez never held a title, he beat Becerra in a non-title. I think Jofre's best wins were Caldwell (for the unification), Medel and Carraballo. The Legra fight was impressive for legacy, but at 118, I feel these were the best. Scartissue
Canto: Gonzalez, Oguma, Espinal Pintor: Zarate, Davila, Sandoval (the Meza fight was fun, I wouldn't bat an eye about adding that one) Legra: Winstone II, Sanchez, Allotey Scartissue
Vic, Eloy Sanchez came out of nowhere to fight Becerra in a non-title. His win I would liken to the town drunk accidentally shooting the local gunfighter. He had lost his last 3 fights before the upset and with the notoriety fought for the world title. He then went right back down the same alley he came out of. Anytime he stepped up in class, he lost (Laguna, Saldivar, Ramos, Rojas). He was just a very lucky clubfighter, so let's forget about Eloy Sanchez when talking Jofre's greatest wins. I think the Carrabalo, Medel, Caldwell and Rollo fights were far more impressive at 118. Scartissue
Good call. If it wasn't for Jofre blocking his path, Miranda would have been in the thick of it. Scartissue
