Never has a pair of wins over two formally great 40 somethings given a man so much legitimacy.

Not a loyalist, just posting objectively. Yes his ban they are Imaginary years .. But trying to speculate here just like we do with every fantasy fight that it also imaginary. And it really isn't imaginary that your body is in Prime for this sport during the years of his ban .. Taking those years away and still accomplishing what he did, adds to it, not detracts for me. No shame in being outpointed by Norton once, maybe twice as styles make fights for every boxer. With a resume like this, you are going to lose some. Ali was never stopped. Any other HW resume you want to present as good as Ali's and that was never stopped? Was his punch resistance and slickness overrated as well? I mean Lewis is a guy who is moving up in all time great status on this Forum and he was KO'd twice and early !!!

And Jimmy Young and possibly Shavers. So he gets credit the longevity but at closer look he was propped up those last few years. That is being objective. He didn't beat a tough crop of contenders in the (60s) to say that he dominates everyone in history. We do read that on here quite often.

Then it goes further. If your a boxing fan you have heard Ali described as the Greatest fighter of all time by the media, boxing fans and general sports fan. It's become a fade. Most of the time the same folks cant tell you who is 2nd or even 3rd. It's junk commentary.
I don't know more overated athlete.

Thanks. I do think if all the greats we're to face each other in a round robin he would have the best overall record at the end. He might lose a few and have some close calls.

Blown away by opinions. A boxing forum with intelligent fans? Jones and Pryor overrated? Do we remember what they did in the ring during their prime years ? Not a fan of either but my god they were great.
