    1. Frazier - it was his bread and butter punch if you fought Joe you'd taste it. His left hooking display against Ellis in the first fight was brutal, love that fight! And of course he put the unbeaten at the time Ali on his ass with it as well!!

    2. Ruddock - for my money I'll take this deadly punch. Put Bonecrusher and Dokes in mini comas, guys who still had something left at the time they faced Ruddock and weren't often put out like that in those days. Tyson claimed it was like a f*****g mule kick!

Tua - many felt the thunder of this hook!! The Ruiz KO was nasty, others that stand out Izon, Maskaev, Wilson, Sullivan, Moorer -though that's a tough one to watch since Moorer was at the end. Another thing about Tua much like Frazier that hook was just as deadly at the end of a fight as the beginning.

Morrison - maybe the flashiest of all the left hooks, when Tommy landed it it was loud and had a look, although many stood up to it. His fight with Art Tucker Tommy lands 3 or 4 that are ear ringing!! Mercer felt the sting and said it was the hardest he was ever hit!!!

Others, Tyson, Dempsey, Quarry, Cooney, Walcott..

Frazier had the ability to reload quickly and fire again, but I don't think his hook compares very favourably with others mentioned, he was a grinder and usually needed to land a ton of them to get the stoppage and he rarely ko'd as in knocked out, anyone of note. I can only think of light-heavyweight Bob Foster who didn't have the frame to take heavyweight shots.

Got to start with Frazier, it was his primary weapon, everyone who fought him knew it was, yet he still is a top ten heavyweight. Their may have been harder hooks thrown by bigger men. But none had the success Frazier had. Sonny Liston, Joe Louis also could be deadly with the hook, Mike Tyson,Evander Holyfeild were also very good. Bowe,Marciano,Morrison,Cooper also were effective with hooks.

One day I hope to put together a top 15 list, same as I did for all time jabs and right hands.

Let's not forget Shavers...when he threw it! Had that port side bomb landed on Lyle in their bout mid-round? That s c r a p would have been over! Lyle was on q u e e r street seeing sugar plums.

Always like to watch JQuarry's demolition of Earnie Shavers in one round. Two guys with some "flaws" throwing heavy leather.

Wasn't it a Shavers left hook that started the quick demise of Ken Norton?
