There is a difference between dancing and footwork ... watch Johnson against Burns or Ketchel. He has perfect balance . His defense was driven by perfect positioning and his footwork was the key ... his own words by the way ...

I don't think he would have ever "killed" Norton. He lost 2 out of 3 as it is. Norton, b-level fighter that he was- remained kryptonite for any era Ali.

I think many here are mistaking "fancy" footwork for effective and efficient footwork.

Hell, otherwise, Jersey Joe would not have so many damn losses on his record, right?

Of the bigger heavyweights, I always like Larry Holmes footwork. Solid, not overly-extravegant footwork that always put him in position to lay a beating.

Sugar Ray Robinson has alot of losses on his record. whats your point? All the matters is how you do in your prime.

I agree with the picks although I'd probably have Charles at 3 with Tunney 4 and Dempsey 5. But all guys had great footwork.

Jack Dempsey was impressive with his footwork.
But nothing compared to Walcott footwork, it was truly beautiful . i agree he's number 1.

I'll say it till the cows come home- Ali was a lot more efficient, effective, and intelligent as he aged. He was much better in the 70s.

I don't know that I'd be able to make a concrete list, but I do know that Walcott is deserving of the first spot placement. I still can't do the Cake Walk like he can- But then again, I'm not that floaty on my feet.
