Top 5 British vs American (1960s onwards)

    First time poster here...thought i'd start with a good one:

    My toop brits:

    Lewis
    Calzaghe
    Hamed
    Eubank
    Honeyghan/ Benn

    Vs

    Ali
    RJJ
    Leonard
    Oscar
    Hearns


    Yes the list looks like the americans are the best but please do consider the brits on that list dominated their divisions and held numerous world titles along the way...Exactly the same as the americans did.

    Level of competition may be the main point of arguing but (without proven stats on my side) I see apart from Calzaghe, most on the list dominated their divisions when fully stacked with world class talent.

    Feel free to make your own lists...

    Also british ATG's....already said its most likely the americans on the list will kill most names.

    In that case, Rest of the World vs Americans. Top 5, got anything?

    Calzaghe and Lewis fit with the 5 Americans.

    But honestly Eubank, Hamed, and Benn are a level below the rest.

    The Philipines could put up Pacman and Donaire ... that is a strong tag team.

    The former USSR would put... Vitaly and Kostya? Or Vitaly and Wlad?

    The UK probably would put Calzaghe and Lewis.

    Who would Africa put up?

    And how about Canada?

    What about the mexicans?

    Only thing is since the 60s the americans have too much strength in depth in every weight...throw out ali, you put tyson,holyfield or holmes

    I may have to change this to 1980s onwards as its during my lifetime

    Top five British fighters post 1960? I'm not sure I'd go with the list presented in the opening post, though I'm not sure who I'd pick overall. I think only two can be definite picks, and they are Lennox Lewis and Joe Calzaghe, as for the other three spaces, well, it could be anyone of of a list of Barry McGuigan, John Conteh, Ricky Hatton, Chris Eubank, Nigel Benn, Carl Froch, Naseem Hamed, Herol Graham, Duke McKenzie, Lloyd Honeyghan or Ken Buchanan

    Of UK fighters my list would look something like:

    1. Lewis
    2. Calzaghe
    3. Eubank
    4. Froch
    5. Benn
    6. Hamed
    7. Buchanan
    8. Collins

    I don't know enough about McKenzie, Honeyghan, and McGuigan to place them.

    I'd put Whitaker and Hagler above Oscar definitely. Potentially Hopkins, Mayweather as well as a few heavyweights.

    since the twenties up to present day the Brits ain't won but two fight of year awards. It seems they don't do much fighting in the UK. Also, they have never won fighter of the year. Dam that's cold.:lol:
