No mention of Jones Jr. yet? He was an awesome counterpuncher.

Tony Canzoneri is up there with the bery best as well. Similar to Jones actually, hands down creating traps for the opponent and when they fall for them ... bang.

Joe Louis and Max Schmeling are my two favs at hw.

Roberto Duan was also mentioned, he was a very good counterpuncher, altering and ad******g his style when facing bigger and bigger opponents.

Pernell Whitaker and JAck Johnson aren´t really counterpunchers IMO, neither is Mayweather.

Toney was great at this but very one-dimensional. Very effective against certain styles though. And looking very miserable against others.

The two greatest masters of this art for me though are Archie Moore and Bob Fitzsimmons. Watching them is a bit like watching a puppet master, they pull the strings their puppets move and get knocked out. Awesome.

Good shout. Holyfield/Tyson I was a superb display of textbook, fundamentally sound counter-punching.

And he was busy with it. He did not wait for the counter he made it.

His jab would be out snapping away, whilst Joey was circling, and as soon as he sees the opening for the counter, you got a clubbing right hand in your mouth.

Love watching him, the guy has so many tricks and skills it is like going to school (watching him)

What a guy, so crafty, people don't realise how hard it is to box like that, staying mid ring, stepping here and there to draw the shot, use the counter, block the jab, land your own, mix the target up and all without compromising your optimal fighting distance.

I'll have to score it then and let you know. Just watching that Pryor-Arguello documentary now though, never saw it before, it's great.

good shout Bokaj - he's probably the best counterpuncher I've ever seen - definately at heavyweight anyhow - followed by Max Schmeling who got a mention earlier too

Agree on Sal Sanchez and Max Schmeling. Toney was a good counter puncher. So was Hopkins, and Holyfield.
