I thought Joey edged it but Carter won his rounds bigger in the early stages...I convinced myself somehow it was a pretty clear cut Giardello win, probably because I was peeved about its depiction in the movie about Rubin..but after watching it again it could have gone either way really.

I think that fight showed how skilled Joey actually was, because he had to rely so much more on his schooling than in the past because of diminshed reflexes. Carter was a very good fighter and came to win big that night.

 

Joe Louis was the best ever, Roberto Duran comes to mind, Ezzard Charles was up there. Archie Moore one of the best.
