I'll say something more, bud: Holmes is one of the smartest guys I've seen in and out of the ring. He knew what he was doing, which is why he remained champion for so long and why he's had a good life as a family man and hometown hero.

He was the top dog when I was a teen and he impressed on me that a champion:

    a) prepares hard; no other way to explain that busy jab, all night. And I saw that you can be the best WITHOUT STEROIDS.

    b) has pride; you instantly saw it was his pride as champion that roused him from being shaken on the canvas to get up and turn back his man.

    c) is his own man; yes, he was many a time an *******. But he knew what he believed and did not tolerate bull as he saw it. :good

It was a job to Joe. As he himself said, I knew I had to "pay attention".

But the guy loved his job! And I love that he loved it. It cheers me up just to watch him in the ring. :good

This is why Frazier is my top dog..Favorite of all time..what caught my eye years ago was his first fight with Ali when Ali was just straight taggin Joe over and over and Joe just laughs at him..Pure gold!

I would never argue any of this!!!..Larry's pride and dedication is what made him so great!..And he was never really worried about peoples feelings either when he spoke to the media...He said what he felt and he stood by it and let his hands to the talkin!...How can you not love a Larry Holmes!?

I quite liked Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas. Haven't seen the movie yet. I like the part in particular where he says something about how he was thinking about macing the poor girl "just on general principles," or some such.

    i like 80s fighters.
    Hearns
    Leonard
    Hagler
    Holmes
Tyson,, and a fighter who does not get much credit, but I loved his power. Edwin Rosario. But Edwin for all his power had trouble taking punches.
