Normal with excessively lenient officiating. There are certain rules in boxing and they should be imposed. I'm not claiming that Saddler should have been DQ'd in every fight of his but what it does prove is that his style likely doesn't translate very well into more strict era's of boxing. Few would claim that Pep has no business fighting today however.
I definitely think that Pep washes Saddler under 2010 rules. I am also of the opinion that Saddler would win a series against a prime Pep under the ruleset they met under.
I think what would make this thread more interesting and less vague would be if everyone had to give the actual fights where their chosen fighters did indeed look like the best ever seen on film.
Saddler did beat Pep, but from the footage we have seen from their bouts Pep is beating Saddler until the retirements. Also the footage of Pep is consistently higher quality than of Saddler who often looks poor and struggles with lesser opposition. If you have not seen it try and find the Pep vs McAllister II highlights, truly amazing. Execution of styles is all well. But I think Pep executes his style better than Saddler. In their bouts on film Pep is consistently 'outboxing' Saddler. Beating Saddler to the punch and avoiding punishment. You got my point entirely BOLD: I can see where you are coming from but if you watch the limited scraps of footage we have of a prime Pep it is amazing, really breathtaking stuff. Whereas post injury it is the same sorta stuff just lacking the youthfullness. :yep Love Pep, and the Pep vs Saddler fights are one of the best rivalries in boxing, if not the best. Indeed it would, ill do that but im off to bed
Well Where would you start with Duran??? Favourite performance of his has got to be Palomino, though another favourite isthe Barkley fight, for obvious reasons. Past prime, above his best weight, close fight, pulls it off and demonstrates (yet again) iron chin, will, ring intelligence, and of course, one of the most accurate punches the sport has ever seen, his right hand. This is the same old stuff that has been said of Duran countless times on here, but it's testement to just how good he looks on film (especially when taking into account the level of opposition) as many others recognise it too. Ricardo Lopez, aesthetically, is a wonderful fighter to watch. There are many others, notable mentions to fighters that I revel in the skillset they employ are Napoles, Arguello, Ray Robinson, Chang....I mean I could go on and on and on and on. Duran, sublime. Another fighter who also blows my mind in a similar vein is Joe Louis. For me, the greatest puncher of all time, his form was exquisite.
Indeed, but is the 3rd fight stoppage due to what Saddler has done to him. It looks like it could have been a freak accident.
