Tbh I find it very hard to do. I just know that I would have Harry Greb as locked number 1, with maybe Langford second and SRR third, which I could switch.
My criteria are resume, talent and head to head factor. If I think they might’ve been juiced I don’t consider the athlete at all. Perhaps achievements as well. 1. Sugar Ray Robinson Pretty terrific resume (but not the best), ATG talent, seemed to have pretty much every tool you could ask of a fighter. He fought 200 times and was never really KO’d, he had over 100 KOs and had no problem fighting fast paced for 15 rounds. No ones unbeatable but he gives any fighter in history both in welterweight and middleweight a near impossible nightmare on his best night. Greatest accomplishment: 5 time lineal middleweight champion Greatest fight: Valentines Day Massacre 2. Muhammad Ali The best resume in heavyweight history and makes an argument for all time. Think of the most talented boxer you can. Now think of the most courageous. Put them together and that’s Ali on his best night. Greatest heavyweight of all time. If you consider cultural impact very heavily, he should top your list. Greatest accomplishment: 3 time lineal heavyweight champion. Greatest fight: rumble in the jungle 3. Harry Greb Is the resume to beat in boxing history. Rose through weight classes and fought everybody in a relatively short career. Endless stamina to both give out and absorb punches, gives any middleweight or light heavyweight in history trouble if not a lose. Greatest accomplishment: fought a record 16 hall of famers in his career a total of 48 times Greatest fight: Defeating Gene Tunney 4. Sam Langford Rose from lightweight to heavyweight and was a dominant force in every division. Heavily dodged in his era, he never got to fight for a world championship. Still was recognized by many at the time as the best, he was infamously dogdged by Jack Johnson and later Jack Dempsey, despite having been much past his prime at that point. Seemed to only have been stopped by cultural forces such as racism. Greatest accomplishment: remaining a top ranked fighter while rising through every major weight division. Greatest fight: 5. Joe Louis The greatest puncher of all time, Joe Louis ruled his heavyweight division with more authority than anyone else in history. Another fighter who became an icon more than pretty much everyone else. Greatest accomplishment: Lineal heavyweight champion for 12 years. Greatest fight: Defeating Max Schmeling
I keep changing my mind on the order, but my top 6 is. 1. Bob Fitzsimmons 2. Harry Greb 3. Ezzard Charles 4. Henry Armstrong 5. Sugar Ray Robinson 6. Sam Langford Honestly feels wrong having any outside the top 3.
