..........I've posted this thing about four times since I found it. My favorite fight ever. [YT]9fHl3FLPrUE[/YT]
Although Duran and SRL are marginally better p4p fighters and far bigger names than Arguello and Pryor, Arguello-Pryor is definitely the greater fight. Are you going to post your Barrera and Margo reels? I'd really like to see them.
All the ones listed are about as good as you're gonna get. Also I'll throw Hamed-Kelley out there, but it's not one of the 5 best fights of all time. Let me know when you're done with this, I'd like to see it.
I read it on another board i visited recently but i can´t remember which one. Also i don´t know if it´s the whole fight or just some rounds. But i really would want to see that one. Beside Greb-Walker this is the only fight with two p4p top10s in it.
.............From what I've read of the fight, it was rather one-sided after the second round. Armstrong even apparently carried Ross (at least from my readings). I think Dempsey1238 has a copy of that, or at least part of the fight. :think
1. Johnson vs. Jeffries. Huge racial signifigance, and Johnson pissed in the faces of all racists across the South who desperatley wanted him to lose, as he soundly thrashed ex champion Jeffries, who had to lose something like 60 pounds to climb back into the ring. Riots followed the fight, and some black men were killed, due to the ramifications of Johnson proving his Superiority. 2. The Rumble in the Jungle....Ali-Foreman....Possibly the Greatest fight in History, one Ali was supposed to lose. But as usual, Ali proved everyone wrong, this fight was so huge, that a Documentary was made of it, "When We Were Kings".....Ali had the entire Country of Zaire in his corner, chanting "Ali Boo-maye" inbetween rounds. Little Children and Adults would watch him train, as if he was a god, or a superhero, and Foreman was inexplicably hated, though his skin was just as black. Ali kayoed Foreman, and in a classic scene in the Documentary, calls back the reporters who doubted him, and keeps asking them "Who's the Greatest???" 3. Louis-Schmelling II. Louis had lost the Title to Schmelling, and basically Hitler, although Schmelling was a good German and not a Nazi, but Hitler needed him to prove his "Nazi Superiority" theory. In the Rematch, Louis carried the hopes and dreams of not only Black America, but America on his shoulders, and he won the title/rematch, and in the streets of Watts and Harlem, the people danced in the streets until dawn!!! 4. Duran-Leonard I. Here was Duran's greatest night, and he outboxed easily the finest boxer of his era. Leonard tried to war with Duran and paid the price, the "Brawl in Montreal" lived up to it's nickname. 5. The Fight of the Millenium. A Personal Favorite. Oscar de la Hoya's Golden Smile was wiped off his face by the Pride of Puerto Rico, and all of Oscar's fanbase had egg on their faces after the fight, and yours truly was at the Mandalay Bay rubbing it in.
