Really important point regarding world titles being apples and oranges when comparing across generations.

In previous eras, depending on the division at a given point in time, a British or European belt may have been as prestigious and as difficult to achieve as alphabet titles in the modern era. These titles were achievements in themselves, rather than stepping stones to bigger things.

It wasn't just the level of competition either. The structure of careers were different; fighters would typically establish themselves as the best domestically and in Europe, and then move onto world level at a later point in their careers.

Like I always say, it's difficult to compare across eras. But I do cringe a bit when (without picking on the guy) people talk about Ricky Burns being a triple crown champion as a unique achievement. If multiple titles existed across 17 divisions back in the day, plenty of other fighters may have achieved similar.
