Top 5 H2H MWs?

D i c k Tiger is in the argument, i would say he'd make it into the lower end of the top 5 H2H middleweights one must not forget about the Hitman either his skill didn't fade and his power carried over enough to stagger Hagler!

 

To me, Hopkins is the most overrated fighter in history. By far. Cerdan could beat anyone. Him and Robinson would have been great and maybe changed history. Watch your boy Hamada then watch prime Cerdan side by side.

Would also like to hear those that don't rank Greb why ALL your picks should be favored over both Micky Walker and Gene Tunney, ya see Greb has both those scalps....
And we do have film of them, they look great as they are both deservedly Hall of Fame, and they fight NOTHING alike...

I like my top 4 and Steele sneaks in there ahead of a few other deserving fighters.

Hopkins rates higher overall in terms of longevity and achievement than H2H. He's a tricky customer for anyone but there are plenty of middleweights from the era just prior to his that I think would have a good shot at beating him - RJJ is obviously one of those (regardless of whether you think Hopkins was green in their actual fight) - the likes of Michael Nunn, Sambu Kalambay, James Toney, Mike McCallum and even Reggie Johnson are guys Hopkins would have a very hard time with. He'd win some but lose some too in my opinion.

* Peak for peak Jones would start favorite against BHop but Hopkins decade plus of dominance and sheer weight of performance at 160 has me taking less of a leap of faith in matches against other ATG's and top performers. Tho i think he'd get past Hagler and Monzon i could easily ease him back to #5 without a problem.

To be totally honest I completely spaced it. I wasn’t that happy about having B-Hop at 5 and now I know why, so thanks for pointing that out. I’d put Hagler 3rd.

I know it’s very cliche to say this, but without seeing Greb it is hard to pinpoint. In resume and accomplishments, you can hardly fault him, H2H is a little bit trickier, which is why I don’t put that much emphasis on it when I’m rating a fighter from an all time standing.

 

Because through years and decades of studying the middleweight division, older posters know them to be the very cream of the crop. New young guys always disparage what they don't understand or can analyze through the lens of time and experience.
