    As I said it all depends on how you want to define lineal. There's no set rules or criteria, just interpretation by different people.

    For example, Holmes never beat the next best HW, ever. But he was widely considered the HW champion during his reign.

    Briggs was a lineal champion but no one considered him the the champion when Lewis defended his title against him.

    I used to think lineage was pure, but actually when you look into the ambiguity of the claimants throughout history it's murky as ****.

    No one, to this day, can say when Jofre stopped being the FW champion of the world despite his lineal claim.

    You have to put Langford and Jeannette right in there. Either may have taken Johnson post Reno. Wills over Willard and picked w Dempey .. Jackson over Sullivan post 87 for sure and Corbett in any sort of level playing field match.
