Byrd was at the tail end of his career no doubt, but it was a passing of the torch as the second best heavyweight not named Klitschko.

Also it meant more than Wilder beating Ortiz in retrospect.

Contenders are contenders , not torch bearers. The torch was already passed to Wlad when he beat Byrd.

If there was such a thing as a second tier torch passing , it went to Vitali when he beat top 5 ranked Peters.

Povetkin beating Chambers was a better win than Byrd.. Byrd was washed up and finished at that point.

Chaggy beating Valuev in that same year was way better than Pov vs Byrd.

 

But I thought in your twisted logic Chambers was another "bum" who Wlad feasted on?

The Byrd win was better than Chambers, but again Infact both are better wins than Wilder v Ortiz.

Chaggy vs Valeuv

Belts changed hands in all those fights and all of them were top 10 rankers.

Nothing on the line in Povetkin vs Byrd and neither of them were ranked in the top 10.

 

Electioneering lol. Fury dominated Wlad on the scorecards. I don't think that can be argued. I also agree Wlad was fully prepared physically and came to win on the night, it's nonsense to suggest otherwise. The contest was atrocious. Fury used his attributes marvelously. Must have landed close to a hundred jabs to the body, whilst in retreat. Fair play Fury. Wlad was accustomed to men smaller than him. His reach usually superior. Against opponent's willing to come forward and engage. Not much engaging from Fury. Fair play Fury. Completely dominated Wlad on the scorecards and defeated a man on an incredible win streak.


I don't think it's outside the realms of possibility, for some people to have a common opinion that Joshua's fight was a better win than Fury's.

 

1. Fury def. Wlad
Wlad was younger, fresher and completly destroyed by Fury although he did not knock him down.
2. AJ def. Wlad
Impressive win, but not that good like Fury i think, especially fighting a retired Wlad who was inactive for ~1,5 years
3. Wilder def. Ortiz
Ortiz is #3 in the game in my opinion right now behind AJ and Wilder. Biggest win for Windmill so far.
4. Haye def. Chisora
Nothing to add. Haye was fantastic in that fight and Chisora might be shot these days but he was a good fighter in his prime, only lost due TKO once and it was Haye who did it so i would rate this as a Top 5 win for sure.
5. Ortiz def. Jennings
Maybe a bit underrated, maybe not a Top 5 win but i was impressed how Ortiz completly destroyed Jennings, even Wlad was not able to knock Jennings down and Ortiz made it look easy as ****.

 

I didn't know you had to hold a title to be considered elite you ****ing messer.

Why are you guys counting Fury's wins as if he is still active? Might as well fill out the list with Wladimir's resume then.

 

1. Fury vs Wlad by far #1
2. Joshua vs Wlad - based mainly on significance…2 year layoff at Wlad’s age, surprised he looked as good as he did…
3. Wilder vs Ortiz - undefeated, highly skilled Ortiz was the guy no one wanted to fight…

The rest are a toss up depending on one’s criteria, won’t know for sure until their careers are fully played out.

Fury over Wlad is unquestionably #1 no matter how badly Fury squandered his career since.

 

If Fury counts ( not technically active until he fights again ) then the win against Wlad is No1.

If not:

1: AJ-Wlad. Beating Wlad in his last fight after a year and a half out is still head and shoulders above any other win apart from Fury.

2. Wilder-Ortiz. I have to have this 2nd. Ortiz was avoided, unbeaten and Wilders first genuine threat.

3 onwards ( Can't split these, pick your poison ) Ortiz-Jennings. Jennings only loss before this was UD against Wlad, Ortiz took care of him in better fashion.

Povetkin-Takam, Byrd, Chagaev, Chambers. All decent wins against ranked opponents. Povetkin obviously has the best resume of current heavyweights just without a signature win.
