I think it would be awfully hard to deny it. I did a podcast a while back about Rocky with two men who watched it in the theaters and they were adamant about its positive cultural impact. Even without being a contemporary, like myself, I can see the effects it had, whether through music (e.g. the theme becoming a general purpose motivator), tourism, language, culture, or something else. It's nearly impossible to escape the series' shadow as a boxing fan. Gatti is easy pickings because he doesn't fit the classic mold for induction. He wasn't a physical titan with a laundry list of credentials. And if people want that to be the standard, I'm okay with it. But I think there is an argument to be had that enshrining fighters like Gatti is worthwhile. Boxing is a martial practice and although Gatti wasn't the fiercest warrior, he was surely one the bravest.
Man there's no need to get all high strung over a simple post where i didn't even go at you personally & where exactly did i get defensive over any fighter ever? when i just stated the facts while highlighting that your example was wrong in this case for (Pacquiao) & the fact that he didn't even need that win to qualify to being a hall of famer, I had to go back to find that "other" post that I'm assuming you were referencing to weeks back LOL & now have realized that i've hurt your feelings in the process, Clearly you're going through some unforeseen mental issues while trying to label me ill, it's okay, Make one written point & now that makes me the diehard!? Yet looking at it closer we see the actual fangirl in attendance, chin up.
He didn't really contribute anything to the sport. He was in 3 great fights against another not great fighter. There have been countless great fights before and since. I really hate to go there but if gatti and ward were latin it would just another domestic level rivalry
I am serious. Other than his excellent win over Ali, Norton did almost nothing of significance. Heading into the first Ali contest Norton had only fought one good fighter in his first 30 bouts. That was Jose Luis Garcia, who knocked Norton out. After the Ali win, he lost the rematch and then was blasted out by Foreman. Norton then beat name but old fighters like Quarry and the aforementioned Garcia. I said that other than the Ali win Norton did almost nothing of significance. The almost nothing was his good split decision win over Jimmy Young. He then won three of his last seven fights and retired. Norton never won a heavyweight title fight and was 1-4 against Hall of Famers. Kenny was a good, not great, fighter and has no business being in the Hall of fame.

So did James Jeffries, so did Ray Mancini, so did Luis Firpo, so did Michael Spinks, so did Dwight Muhammad Qawi, so did Bobby Chacon, so did George Foreman, so did Arturo Gatti (the Ward fights maybe be more famous and rightfully so, but his biggest fight was either with Mayweather or with De La Hoya), and actually you could say De La Hoya too, depending on whether you see the Chavez, Vargas and Whitaker fights or the Trinidad, Hopkins, Pacquiao, Mayweather or Mosley fights as his biggest fights.
Hamed was awesome...his speed and power...and his showmanship of course..out of this world. Those entrances and his wacky behavior, to me he was the Madonna or Eminem of boxing in that sense. And, up to the Barrera debacle, he looked pretty invincible. Although now I know, after seeing the careers of Wilfredo Gomez, Mike Tyson, Julio Cesar Chavez Sr, and him go though that invincible aura era just for it to dissipate, that in boxing....in life, no one is invincible, not even Rocky Marciano, sorry as I am that I have to say that. But its true.
I agree about Michalczewski but disagree about Hill. Hill definitely deserves to be in he was a long-time champion. Im also torn about Fabrice Tiozzo, he had a heck of a career and probably deserves to be in, but the way he lost the rematch with Hill left a bad taste, especially in American mouths.
