    I wasn't arguing for Toney's inclusion. :)

And no mention of McCallum anywhere?!?!?!

I know you weren't. Thought I'd mention him since you did in a previous messages. McCallum would more than likely be around the bottom half of the top 10. I went for a top 5 as it's quicker and easier to do rather than a longer list. Whats you're top picks?

It's plain to see where I have Holmes, outside my top 5. With so many skilled fighters over the last 30 years it was always going to be tough placing my top 5, not just picking them.

How exactly do we define talent?

All opinions, but Chavez over Mayweather? That surprised me.

I've always wondered the same thing.

Speed, strength, chin are talent, things you just naturally have.

Some people talk about talent they mean ability. Ability is often a natural aptitude, so that's talent too.

But it's not easy to say how much ability is developed rather than just natural talent. Same with strength, which is often built. I guess freakish speed is most obvious talent. And freakish punch resistance is largely a god-given "gift" too.

Then there's wisdom, guile, nous, "ring generalship", cleverness, what is sometimes called "skill" (rather than "skills", it's more than the sum of all skills), and we can view that as INSTINCT - and that's a big part in looking good. Talent without instinct is useless.

It confuses the **** out of me but everyone else seems to throw around "talent" and understand what each other is saying !

You might have a point. As per the post by Sonny above me i find the criteria a bit vague. I mean do we call RJJ and Ali unbelievably "skilled" even tho their mechanics were unorthodox? Is skilled the ability to hit and not get hit, orthodoxy, effectiveness etc? With Chavez over Mayweather at this stage i must admit i was thinking more "effectiveness" bearing in mind Chavez IMO is a little more proven historically at this point.
