Nothing wrong with Etienne. He had a draw with Botha in the very last fight before Tyson and a UD over Brewster. Does he not count as "decent quality opp"?
Not overly no. Botha had the better career and was on the downward spiral when they fought. Tyson knocked Botha out years before he fought Etienne and Lewis and Wlad did too prior to him fighting Etienne. Wlad stopped him just 4 months prior to the bout actually. These stoppages certainly weren't doing much for him.
Then I guess he'll just have to count as "average fry" opposition that got knocked out with one punch from Tyson. Remind me who Shavers one shotted again?
Jimmy Ellis you said? There would be numerous others not on film. You are the one trying to make an enormous deal out of one shot ko's, not myself or bojak. It's close minded thinking. There's a reason Shavers has so much fame and acclaim power wise and is held in such high regard historically. The thread pertains to the "hardest" punchers, not the best. If it was "best" punchers then go knock yourself with Tyson, he's got Shavers covered in that regard.
For what it's worth Tyson after prison probably hit harder than before prison. He was a lesser fighter overall, but he had started with weights, I think.
As Jt has pointed out, we don't really know. But of the two of his KO's on film, one is a one punch KO. That's what we know. We also know that five fighters who met many big punchers all had him as the hardest.
Meaning if everyone was the same size, who'd punch the hardest? Yeah, a HW.[/QUOTE] Absolutely stupid response!Pound for pound means exactly that who for the weight they were hits the hardest? Not if they were all heavyweights!

P4P means TO ME if everybody was the same size, who'd be the best. Lol @ it meaning who the hardest hitting in the division by poundage is! You'd just say they were the hardest hitting *insert weight here* guy.

Not hard to grasp, really." If the thread specified hardest punching boxers ever then obviously they would be heavyweights and you would be right. It didn't and you're not !
Better to make an enormous deal out of verified one punch knockouts than spurious quotes, I think. Especially when arguing whether Shavers had more power per punch.
It seemed to me that you implied that he didn't have any other one punch KO's than Ellis. If you meant we don't how many more of his 65 other KO's came by one punch, fair enough. That's a moot point for me, though. What we do know is enough to be reasonable sure that no one around 210 lbs hit as hard imo.
Yeah what would opponents such as Ali, Holmes, Cardwell, Norton, Young, Lyle, Cobb (all singing enormous praise) and others know compared to your good self.
I'll mention some names rarely mentioned other than the "usual suspects" the J.Jackson's ,T.Hearns, Big E.Shavers etc. I'll start with K.Galaxy, A.Moore, C.Zarate, R.Olivares, J.Mugabi, W.Gomez,A.Arguello at super feather. Matthew Franklin or Saad Muhammed (very underrated puncher on this site)
Michael Spinks seldom gets a mention too, mainly i think because Bob Foster is such a stand out at 175 and many are lulled a bit by his heavyweight stint which was a division where he wasn't a big hitter one iota. Jamie Garza was also a huuuuge puncher (bigger than Gomez i reckon) but didn't do enough with it to figure much in such threads. Edwin Rosario is the best hitter i have seen at 135 too. There's just so many great punchers scattered across history many fantastic hitters fail to get a mention.
