Well saying that Byrd is one of the 2 best fighters he fought is MASSIVELY debateable.

How exactly do you work that out?

Besides Lewis did he fight a more accomplished or skilled fighter than Byrd? I for one don't think so, but Im willing to entertain arguments if you have them.

Head to head I think he's an absolute monster. Legacy wise, he falls short. I can't call a guy an ATG who's best wins are Herbie Hide, Corrie Sanders, Sam Peter, and Kirk Johnson. In his defense, his defeat to Chris Byrd is a tad over stated. He basically dominated that fight and quit due to an injury that had nothing to do with anything Byrd did to him.. The Lewis defeat is a bit harder to justify. He fought gallantly in that match and was probably winning, before that huge cut was opened. But he still lost to a man who was off for a full year, fighting at a career high weight, and at 37 years of age was on the ass end of his career.. I like Vitali and would pick him to beat a number of hall of fame heavy's due to his size, strength, chin and outside fighting game. But his resume doesn't crack the top 20 for me.. Head to head and legacy are two totally different animals.

His resume is terrible but through no fault of his own, it's just a dire era of heavyweight Boxing. If he was in a different era he could have been one of the greatest but he wasn't, he's in this era so his resume is still ****ing terrible.

The only thing I disagree about is the Byrd fight. He was winning decisively on the cards, but the rounds were close. The crowd even cheered for Byrd after putting up the effort he did. I think quitting though hurts his legacy, but that just my opinion. History may or may not judge differently.
