I don't think the "world title" status of Pacquiao's fight with Margorito should mean a thing in historical context.
Pacquiao is certainly great, but I think these "weight-jumping" achievements get overrated.
For a start, Pacquiao could probably fight me and some organization would sanction it as for the HEAVYweight championship of the world.
Also, he's a genuine 140 - 145 pound man now, and should be judged as such. Not by how much he weighed years ago.

Pacquiao is certainly an all-time great though.

Mclarnin was not dominant againt ross or canzoneri unlike pacquiao who basically destroyed morales, barrera, hatton and cotto.
His fights with Labarba was joke, LaBarba was not even rated then as he is only 19. As for villa, he is 6 pounds heavier.

Pacquiao is a p4p best fighter for three years. He one of the top 25 punchers of all-time

McLarnin destroyed Corbett worse than anyone Pac did at 147.

Marquez may end up being the best fighter Manny faced in his career...he was far from dominate in either of their fights.

McLarnin was almost as much as a novice as Labarba was..in fact some would argue he was even greener, as he was an unheralded teenager compared to the well respected amatuer star and olympic gold medallist in Labarba. No one seriously acts as those are up with his best wins anyway, only McGrain.

As usual asero your arguments have more holes than swiss cheese.

if you based it on who people have heard off i reckon at least 75 people out of 100 you asked on the streets would name Ali or Tyson. The other 25 will have watched boxing and may name Marciano, Louis, Robinson. You may also get some current popular names depending on where you live such as Pacman, Mayweather, Hatton, Calzaghe etc etc.

Boxing just isnt that popular these days for the generals to have a clue about the sport

You could take Floyd Mayweather and put him in Grand Central Station, NYC
at 5:00 PM, and nobody would know who the hell he was.

The 'Q' rating says,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,it starts with Muhammad Ali.
and ends with George Foreman, a very-close second.
