It's the perfect tournament to underline just how good Sam was. I could not discount him beating Dempsey, Louis or Marciano, particularly the Rock as Sam would be reloading that cannonball uppercut. He has the power, durability and generalship to create disaster.

Johnson never fought the juggernaut version of Sam though I've always fancied his style (at his best) to win a decision.

    P. Jackson would likely do better than what most suspect.

Suszie Q, I ask the same questions again:

I agree with your conclusions about match ups amongst the absolute eliits SQ.

But what about other HWs who were still very good when coming up & young, though pre-prime, before they reached their full size. Surely (If I may call you Shirley...) Ali could easily crack the top 50 ibefore he hit 200.

What about Frazier? At his peak he was a good 205. He must have had some very good fights on the other side of 200, right?

How about other HW contenders in The GOlden age, before they got bigger/hit a critical mass in the 80's? Quarry?

I understand this considers PEAK efficacy, not total accomplishments or record even at this catch weight.

Cassius Clay didn't become dangerous until dec 1962 when he tipped 205 vs Archie moore.

Clay was still a teenager in 1960-1962. At 199lb vs lavorante Good enough to crack the top 50? Yes

Frazier had no good fights under 200

Quarry had his best performances above 200

Good list. I might give honorable mention to John Henry Lewis, Paul Berlenbach, and Maxie Rosenbloom.

Huh, Frazier was peak at not much over 200, but had no good fights under 200? Unusual, but OK. aIt is a good list.

You do not think we know enough about John L. Sullivan to put him on the list, & well up on it?

He contradicted that statement several times.

And did he not consider Slade, a half Maori, at least somewhat pigmented?
