I decided to take a stab at this. I feel fairly confident with the top 10. The rest are subject to deeper debate, but they're in the ballpark I think. 1. Sam Langford 2. Mike Gibbons 3. I omitted title claimants like Les Darcy, Jeff Smith, Eddie McGoorty, Ike Weir, Leo Rodak, Young Griffo and Luther Slugger White. Other contenders to consider are Leo Lomski, Ace Hudkins, Harlem Tommy Murphy, Jock Malone, etc.
Solid work :good Imagine how many belts some of these guys would win if they were around today, in the era where there's an abc world title belt for everyone.
Billy Graham? Peter Kane?Nel Tarleton?Leo Lomski? Young Stribling?Len Harvey? Ron Richards?Alvaro Lopez?Joey Archer?
Bud Taylor was recognized as the world bantamweight champ by most state commissions, I believe, no? I think Sid Terris belongs too.
Seeing Sam Langford at the top of that list almost confirms to me that titles mean nothing. Sam maybe the greatest fighter ever and definately up there with Robinson, Greb, and Charles.
