I don't think you could even argue Loi above Ortiz to be honest, despite going 2-1 with him. Ortiz's resume outside of those 3 fights blows Loi's out of the water.

Or Monzon, otherwise Holmes's Jab had a fantastic list.

Working through the weights has proved enough for many, me included. Who do you have rated above him in the class?

At Flyweight? I'm not sure I'd rate any above him, though cases for fighters like Villa, Perez, Canto, Barry, Lynch, etc. can be made.

I agree cases can be made - just as cases can be made for Haggler, Robinson, Monzon at middle. But I think that Wilde is the natural choice. Given that this is the case he is naturally in order for high honours when p4p trinkets are given out.

Thanks. I rate Hagler ahead of Monzon overall (perhaps too high overall?).

By the time I got to round to finishing the list it didn't happen to include Carlos, for some strange reason he initially slipped my mind. He'd definitely be on the very fringes of the 30 anyway (higher for some). If you want to take the likes of Wilde or Saddler out and place him there that's reasonable enough.

Regarding Hagler: I'd take him to beat Hopkins at their respective peaks (I know some feel differently). Just plain better workrate, great chin, and would pressurize Hopkins at every turn sweeping the closing rounds down the stretch. Marv: Close but clear UD. What d'yall think?

Ps: Apologies for deviating off-topic (again!), I just like a nice bit of classic debate that's all. :good

I'm also one of few who seems to favor Hagler over Hopkins, I don't know why that is.

I'd favor Monzon over Hagler though.

Hopkins is a superior general who is hard to hit without getting tagged. Like Duran (though he is a very different fighter). So there is that precident, of sorts.

I see Monzon/Hagler as closer to call than Hagler/Hopkins but basically...you'd be holding onto your cash if any of these boys were fighting, wouldn't you?

Good list. A few comments thought. Ali is too low. Duran shouldn't be higher that Sugar Ray. Where are the Wilfredos (Gomez and Benitez)?

Gomez and Benitez are just outside; they were bothe between 58 and 68 when I made the 100. I think that might change when I do a new Benitez especially would probably be in the 55.

Who do you think Ali should be above, specifically?

I consider Duran the better man by a sliver. He's a lightweight who holds a belt at Middle, and picked it up against a punching, aggressive MW at that. But the fact that past prime Duran (he is a lightweight) beat prime Leonard (he is a welterweight) tells me plenty, and helped make that decision.

Lennox Lewis is better and has the resume to back this up even, than all the old fighters on your list bar Robinson. How can you have him below Bob Fitzimmons, Burley etc?

The man was the man and beat ever fighter he faced, and is perhaps the best HW there has ever been. A man accepted already, just a few years after his retirement as being capable of defeating any boxer in history. And he never had any ducking issues.

    Really good list that.
I can't for the life of me though understand why Bernard Hopkins in the top 50 of all time I really cant especially when someone like Marciano isn't even in there!
I know Hopkins has won titles at different weights bit you have to look at the quality/weights of the opposition he fought I think which I don't think is alltime great status, plus taking into account the number of losses he has had against fighters who are nowhere near the top 50 - his position is way too generous!
