Top 55 Fighters, All Time

Yes, there are some good fighters in there but some glaring stupidity too​

 

And Hagler being in ANYONES top 7 is not? :huh :blood

Such lists aren't exactly easy to make. They require time and effort, and usually some constructive criticism too (as its easy to forget a name or two)

I thinkk Hagler was one of the ost complete fighters there has ever been. Holyfield doesn't even compare to him in my book. Holyfield is a guy that despite all his success, I just don't have any respect for. We all have THAT guy....he is mine.

 

Mostly good choices. Some points on which I disagree:
Langford is obviously a legend, but I really fail to see how he outranks Robinson, Armstrong and Greb. Ultimately, I think those guys have better resumes, records, and championships (not Langford's fault, but a championship does enhance your standing, particularly if you're able to hold onto it through extended time and defenses, since everyone in the division is scrambling for the title), and at least as much multi-division success.
I think Carlos Monzon deserves a substantially higher rating than 24th- in fact, I would make him a lock for the top 15 with his utterly incredible dominance, consistency and longevity.
I have to say it again: You're just plain ludicrously underrating Marciano. The only unbeaten and untied linear champion in any weight class in history who beat two of your top 10, at least one of whom was in his prime and was virtually the same size as he was, and he's not even in the top 55? How can you possibly justify ranking guys like Lennox Lewis higher than Marciano pound-for-pound???

 

I have a problem with fantasy lists like this where moving up in weight classes is counted as such a large portion of the criterea, it pretty much leaves the big guys out of the equation, even though almost all the great heavyweights could snuff out all of the class jumpers. I can understand penalizing Haglar and Monzon for not moving North, but the Ali's, Louis's, and Marciano's of the world had nowhere North of their division. I guess, since this is a fantasy, Marciano's accomplishments should be credited for cuiserweight and Heavyweight as he never weighed more than the cruiserweight limit. Perhaps if weight class movement and true head to head comparisons can be made, or at least cancel each other out, then a more non-discriminatory rating method can be made. Ex. Langford's weight class jumps are fully credited against people he can beat, but when comparing head to head with Ali (I favor Ali H2H), then Ali's H2H credit cancels out Langfords class jumping credit.

Duilo loi and Panch Villa Need to be ejected and these guys inserted.

 

i think whitaker should be top 15, lewis i think should be higher, pancho villa should be lower, salvador sanchez is a bit high for a guy with only 20+ fights..

DLH i think should have been in the equation

Well I read the list a few times and was sure that Gavilan's name was there and I had just missed it.

I was eventually forced to reckon with the fact that it wasn't.

its really hard to make a list even a top 50 one..you have to consider every fighter and must have grade A boxing knowledge, what he did, who did he fought(acheivements), his style of fighting, h2h matchups, the controversial decisions. Really hard..imo, making top 10 p4p list are 100x easier
