I did a hundred recently and Calzaghe didn't make the cut. Barrera, Morales and DLH all did, in that order, betwen 65 and 100. Tyson did not make the 100. I wasn't happy with that list though. My criteria is composite. I try to take EVERYTHING into account, skillset, dominace, weight divisions bossed, losses, resume, head to head. This is why I like to put my lists up, get some input. You can't cover all the bases, though I'm pretty happy with this 55.
Oh of course. You know Evander....its all about the kids...:hey I will work on a list tonight, after I get my daughter to sleep...post it later or tomorrow (in case I pass out with her). As for his HW rank, I have him 7...and there is absolutely no way to argue him being #1 at CW, so Im glad we FINALLY agree on something.
I started a thread in Classic "Pealrs of the Orient: The 20 Greatest Fighters From the East" and I had him top five. That brought it home a bit. I want to work this up to a hundred, a better one than my first effort. He'll be considered. But it is so much harder when they are active close to peak. Unanswered questions about Pac. Plus that JMM thing made me nervous. I had I as a draw and II as a win for JMM.
I've had him as high as 8. I was really happy with my HW list which had been static for about a year, then bloody Marciano went and ruined everything...
I too had Pac/JMM I as a draw and II as a win for JMM. However objectively speaking, he has beaten some very good fighters and it's hard to argue his 3 Lineal titles. I wouldn't have him top 55, but certainly top 100, probably top 70. His limitations are made up for with his tenacity and heart. And of course his power and speed.
Inconsistency can be a damaging aspect for a fighters legacy, but it can also be a good thing. I suppose it depends exactly when a certain fighter is being inconsistent. Throughout his entire career? only when past his prime? That all needs to be taken into account. An inconsistent fighter is being defeated regularly, obviously. But part of the territory which comes inconsistency is the ability to shine when least expected. And thats an impressive feat for any fighter, amatuer or pro, journeyman or elite ATG. Ali and Louis are probably the best examples. Ali won the heavyweight title three times because he was inconsistent, throughout the 70's especially. Louis on the otherhand reigned longer than Ali did, but he never fought the same quality of opposition. Not IMO anyway. Thats probably why Louis was more consistent than Ali. If Louis was around during the 60's and 70's would he have reigned for 11 years. Doubtful.
true if i'd put him in a list probably say in the 75 above range, he was poor in skills but when it comes to acheivement he's already there plus the fact that asia produce only a few great fighters who would possibly end up as an ATG.
I saw some other peoples list and tyson was somewhere between the 50 range but i did disagree a bit due to lack of competition

i am also kinda bias when it comes to tyson so somehow i would like the guy to be in a top 100 list:yep, but i do agree about his wins.
Solid picks in there, though the order is a bit odd for my taste past a certain point. And yes, no doubt Napoles needs to be in there.
Fighting Harada is the most overlooked ATG ever. This guy was a beast. Top 35 cemented ATG I would put Napoles around 38, maybe as high as 30.
Solid lists in this thread havent seen a bad one, just a few small tweeks here and there. These things are mind hurting to make, hope you guys get bored enough to make a top 100 someday.
