Have a quick look. If memory serves there's decent footage on YouTube. You'll see it straight away. He's a special fighter.
I always welcome your input and it's true what you say about De La Hoya v Calzaghe. I think I'll have another look at your recomends.
I think #70 is severely underrating him. His resume is filled, his footage supports his standing, he was an innovator, and certain fighters above him shouldn't be. As far as losses, yes, it's similar to many of the ATG's *cough Langford cough* who show inconsistency at some point in their careers. As you can see by his losses, the vast majority came at the end of his career. His top wins more than make up for his losses in his prime.
Really? His resume was stacked at his young age, to an absurd degree that makes you imagine with wonder how he'd have done had he continued. Brilliant fighter, watch his fight with Danny Lopez.
I forgot Larry Holmes too. My #4 heavyweight ever based on resmue and #2 all time on a head 2 head list. I think I put him at #30 on my last list. Some would disagree but this guy was a textbook fighting machine. Other than maybe Lewis and Frazier of course I think he has a better chance at beating Ali than anyone else, same with him against Foreman(bar Frazier of course). A 1981 Holmes KO's an 88 Tyson by the 11th too.
Why?! Fitzimmons won the MW title of the world against a great and dominant champ, the HEAVYWEIGHT title against a younger, bigger man, and then added the light-heavyweight title for good measure! This is the very definition of "pound for pound", three world titles, two at an uncomfortably high weight for a guy who was essentially a light-middlweight.
Rightly or wrongly I look at any p4p list as if they were in the same weight class (pick one)? and were to fight head to head. Using that method its my view that a 5'11", 170 lb Ali would destroy Fitz. No contest. Thats why I would have Fitz way down the list. I understand that people each have their own views on this ranking, and how they come up with it. This is just mine. Its not the only thing I disagree with on that list either but as I read down it I quickly realized that its not set up the way I would do it. Fitz over Ali is just one example.
Fair enough - so long as you understand that not one HW would make the 20, and probably not the 55, that's just the way it works. Fitz's prime weight was never more than middle by the way, so you are diminishing Ali a good deal further. You're also diminshing his already questionable power to near a near featherfisted level.
