Carlos Ortiz Wilfredo Gomez Wilfred Benitez Pedro Montanez Jose Basora Esteban De Jesus Felix Trinidad Assuming of course, that Cocoa Kid was indeed Cuban.
1. Wilfredo Gomez - No explanantion needed. An ATG no matter where he's from. 2. Wilfred Benitez - Could have been even better if he was more dedicated. His natural skill was astounding. Could have outboxed Cotto or Trinidad IMO. Competition was brutal in his era. Really lost to Bruce Curry in 77' but he was only 19 years old. Beat the great Antonio Cervantes at just 18 in 76.' 3. Jose Torres - Superb LHWT champion who took the title from Willie Pastrano. 4. Felix Trinidad - Exciting and crowd-pleasing with charisma. 5. Hector Camacho - Was he from the Bronx or PR? I'm not sure but he has the Boriqua heritage. He had so much talent but did not really harness it. Showed he has the heart of a lion in the De La Hoya and Chavez losses. Edwin Rosario probably ruined him as a top-flight fighter. 6. Edwin Rosario - Dynamite puncher who many feel was robbed in the Camacho loss. 7. Miquel Cotto - Recent losses bring him down a couple notches on this list. If he had beaten Margarito (of course he had the deck stacked against him as we know now) he would be rated ahead of Macho and Rosario IMO. Also has the heart of lion but maybe should take a sabatical from the sport to heal his body and mind (his father recently sadly passed away).
Oh shucks, I forgot Carlos Ortiz!!! Dammit!!! I would put Ortiz #2 after Gomez bumping Cotto from the top seven. DeJesus was great too... First man to beat Duran... He's gotta be there too over Camacho and Rosario... Basora was great too.
Supposedly. He's listed sometimes as Puerto Rican, though it seems he was actually one of the Cuban defectors (along with Kid Chocolate at the time) that managed to escape to America during that period. The Puerto Rican tag likely just came in order to hide his identity.
