People say that Foster fought in something of a weak era. I think there is something to that. But it's also the case, I think, that he fought in an era stuffed with top drawer chins, the type of guys that draw points losses from ATG punchers and dent their arua as hitters a bit. This didn't happen with Foster. Some examples. Chris Finnegan had an absolutely almight beard, and although he was stopped four times, Conte, Schmidtke and Ashie only managed it on cuts. Foster introduced him to the 10 count with a horrible one-two. Dick Tiger. Absolute granite split completely in two by a single left hook. Tiger didn't even know anything about that punch. Mark Tessman had his eyelid split in two by Henry Hank in 1968 but he was dropped and stopped (technical) by Foster two years after that. Speaking of Hank, the Detroit tough was beaten over thirty times in a career that turned journeyman, but Foster is the only guy to stop him. Hal Carroll. Stopped twice in his career on cuts, but only by punches, Foster brutalised him in just four rounds. Then the insanity with Mike Quarry. He heard the ten once after Foster but if ever anyone had a case for being ruined by one punch it was Mike, holy ****. Guy cracked a lot of granite in his time. Anyone else that he stopped that was gifted in the chin department?
Believe Hank was stopped with a body shot. Finnegan seemed a little gun shy after the Foster bout... testament to how truly granite his chin was that he was only stopped on cuts after that...and previous. No human comes back from the Quarry KO the same...just can't see it happening.

Andy Kendall had a pretty good beard throughout his career. If you ever saw their fight on youtube it's a good one. Kendall is doing everything in his power to rough up Foster anyway he can. In the 4th they both trade simultaneous bombs, but Foster's has more impact.
Hank looked in a terrible state after going 12 rounds with Foster Did DePaula have a tough reputation?
"Hank was stopped on a body shot." "Chin" isn't meant to mean literally "a punch on the chin" but rather fighters who are hard to stop.
Dick Tiger, Chris Finnegan, Mike Quarry, and he KO'd Vicente Rondon to unify the light heavyweight title Rondon went the distance with Heavyweight Earnie Shavers but also was KO'd by middleweights Bennie Briscoe and Jose Gonzales
Foster has always and will always be my #1 pound-for-pound puncher for power, and a top ten lock for all offensive aspects. A light heavyweight facing Foster better not have any physical disadvantages or he's getting sparked; so rangy, such a good jabber, and extremely powerful even in the late rounds.
I have him #6 kind of "overall offensive" pure power i'd probably have him a bit lower because you let in all the geeks and freaks then (Sattersfield, Choynski, Herrera etc).
Foster's fight with Finnegan is a good example of how Boab could still get the accumulative stoppage if his pure single-shot power failed to work outright or soften an opponent up enough for an easy stoppage a few rounds of beating later. He landed some massive shots on Finnegan, who would often shrug them off within seconds and fire back.Fighting away from home, a fighter of lesser mentality who had become so used to his power breaking opposition might have crumbled. Instead you got both going through various tactical changes until Boab prevailed.
