Protective custody is where they put celebritys, crooked cops and pedophiles, the hole is a tiny cell that that they keep you locked in for 23 hours cause you broke the rules. Most people going to prison would prefer PC to general population, really he would have been looking dumb if K9s wife had called the police cause he can't deal with the consequences.

It's a tiny cell with very little light and they can strip you for your protection, Protective Custody is nicer than general population, I'm sure he had neighbors, Ja Rule was in PC with Wall Street guys who he said were giving him stock tips
