..In response to Magoo's line about Nova Scotians in the Top 20 European Fighters thread, here's a list of the Top 10 fighters to come out of my home province: 1. George Dixon 2. Sam Langford 3. Mysterious Billy Smith 4. Art Hafey 5. Clyde Gray 6. Kirk Johnson 7. Richie Howard 8. Blair Richardson 9. Chris Clarke 10. Ralph Hollet The list only includes fighters who were born in N.S. So Trevor Berbick doesn't make the list as a result. Neither does Mike McTigue (who fought out of N.S. for a time).
The first three that come to mind are Yvonne Durelle and the Hafey brothers. I'd no idea, Drew 101, Sam Langford was from there...maybe because I'd always heard the nickname, "The Boston Tar Baby."
He fought out of Boston (as did Dixon), but was born in Weymouth NS. Durelle was actually from Baie St. Anne, New Brunswick..although he did fight in Nova Scotia quite a bit in his eariler days.
You have- The best bantemweight of all time-Dixon The best light heavyweight of all time-Langford A man who a small but vocal minority on the general forum thought to be the greatest welter of all time untill about 1935-Smith. Not bad.
