Patterson was stopped 5 times. Ali x2 on accumilation Liston x2 Johansson x1 So, twice against the Greatest, twice against one of the best punchers in the divisions history, once against a really good puncher. ALL at heavyweight title level and the guy was a nutural light heavy. Patterson has a GOOD chin. Punchers he survivied include Moore, Cooper, Johansson x2, Chuvalo.
Lewis had a great chin :deal He took some good shots from Briggs and Vitali. It´s no shame to get ko´ed by big men like Rahman and McCall. Lewis took revenge, Wladimir did not :smoke
Anyone who thinks Lewis has a glass jaw should probably check this video out: http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=u4SQmxIP5Bk Remember these are all big men hitting this guy, he took many a good shot. As for Hearns, he is an ATG, but you'd have to be blind to say his chin was circumspect at the very least. Even in that second match up with Leonard, I think everyone was just waiting, watching through the gaps in their fingers for the moment when Leonard was going to connect and knock him out. Much to Tommy's credit: it didn't happen, but only just. So very close. The one big hit did happen near the end, and it had him wobbling all over the place, he held on, as I said to his credit, but his chin almost let him down again. But I agree with the earlier comment - anyone can get knocked out - especially in the Heavyweights.
a reason patterson became a 2 timer was becuase of his jaw and skill. it was soft but when he got dropped he was able to get up and keep a to sort of a gameplan....unless your called sonny, where as you dont give him any time to get ready and land a left hook at will...weak jaw or not it didnt really effect his gameplan Norris for me had a soft chin but had very good recouperative abilty's...even if that means he slugs with them and bullies them. people forget that he was almost always stopped on his feet. even when wacko jacko got to him he actaully got up and was arguing with the ref....brown ko was sadly started by a jab...a good heavy "shotgun" jab but still a jab. mullings landed a massive rigth hand and had norris reeling but still he was up on his feet and fighting back. hearns had a average jaw if he got hit he goes down...i think we rate jaws way too much here. hearns could take punishment but if it was a snapper to the chin he would go wobbly.. he was hurt by leonard but you have to say that he had start to gas by round 10 and wasnt moving.....he was stopped on his feet. for me joe louis had an average chin but becuase he is a great he has to be ranked among the best chins ever....even tito is for some reason commended as airon chined god...the guy gets tagged and dropped form pretty mild punches. that doesnt make him a damn good fighter.
1. Hearns-he is an ATG and a top 15 in most list, yet his ability to absorba hit was questionable... 2. RJJ-for many years his speed and his skills mascarade this fact..but after the speed slow him down..it was reveled 3. Patterson-perhaps not so fair since in reality he was a LHW rather than a HW, yet he ability to take the puch from the big punchers was clear.... 4. Vargas- tough, but once he was inside the ring with the top class fighters he was exposed 5. Norris- was clearly exposed....and never the same
Some people dont understand what a glass jaw is. Glass jaw = getting KTFO by a light puncher. For example, Mundine KOed by S. Otke or Khan put down by W. Limond etc. If you get TKO by a monster like prime Tyson e.g. this does not mean you have a glass Jaw.
he fought John Ruiz who had not had a KO in over 3 years prior to that fight. Ruiz has no power for a Heavyweight and only landed one decent shot the whole fight that was not even flush on Roy's Glass Jaw.. Who did John Ruiz ever KO? all of his fights went the distance because he has no skill and no power. Ruiz was just another handpicked opponent by Roy. Roy Jones has a horrible Glass Jaw.
Wilfred Benitez???????:huh..his true KO lost happend after he was damage..on is prime his only loss by KO was Davey Moore , and he was unabloe to finsih due to the broken ankle....Leonard lost was by TKO, with the cut on the forehead critical on the fight... Tito, was drop of flash KD...Hearns was demolish by punches....I like Herns and like I mentioned I do ahve Hearns oin my top 15 ATG ever....Who can forget the 5th round of the first SRL v Hearns fight.... If you are goinjg to mentioned flash KD why you guys don't mentioned Manny Pacquiao....why?..because all of you gys have selective memory, specially Manny's ass kisser... Ttio was drop fopr loses twice, out of his natuarl weight class.. Hearn was drop on his own weight class....
Some of you are plain ****ing stupid. Trinidad did not have a glass jaw, the guy was stopped once by Bernard Hopkins, at MW, he went in with guys like Ricardo Mayorga, Fernando Vargas for **** sake. And the Oba Carr arguement is plain ****, the guy was 32-0 coming into the fight, with 20 KO's, including 15 clean KO's. It's not inconceivable the guy would score a knockdown, Tito got up and finished him. As I say, he went in with big punchers like Mayorga and Vargas and did just fine. Lennox Lewis does not have a glass jaw, he was stopped on his feet against Oliver McCall, and caught unawares by a big puncher in Hasim Rahman with the perfect shot while unprepared. He proved his chin is solid by taking punches from a prime Vitali Klitschko, David Tua, Tommy Morrison, Frank Bruno, Shannon Briggs, Mike Tyson etc. Roy Jones Jr does not have a glass jaw, he moved up to heavyweight and then had to shed about 18lbs of pure muscle, and was stopped first by a big puncher in Antonio Tarver when weight drained, and then by an aggressive, tough guy in Glencoffe Johnson.
